Well, guess Marsha and co. have some kinks to work out. I hate the fact that TT did not play an exhibition game before this...most of the players just looked out of sync and played kinda sloppy. La Tech came out fired up and just out-hustled the Lady Raiders. Man were their guards quick! TT needed some outside shots...only 1 trey! Ritchie was just off on her shot and I wish Tennal would have taken more shots. Greenwalt is so talented but needs to stop being so tentative. She really needs to gain some confidence before conference play starts.

Pierson is back better than ever and Grant did a great job in her collegiate debut. Grant made some mistakes, but man is she good. I can't wait to see how she progresses through the season. She looked so disappointed after she fouled out. This girl is not used to losing and I think in a way this loss might be good for her. She's just gonna work harder to make sure this doesn't happen again. I think this team has the potential to be great and I'm not disappointed with this loss at all. It's a learning experience and they will just use it to make them better.

Here's the killer -- free throws, TT was 13 of 20 while LT was 26 of 31 from the line!! That's terrible. Tech shot 31 of 69 from the field while LT was 29 of 68

* - starters

*Pierson 25 pts, 8 boards, 6 blocks, 1 stl
*Grant 13 pts, 6 assists, no turnovers, 1 stl
*Perkins 16 pts, 1 stl
*Greenwalt 8 pts, 5 boards, 3 blocks
*Jackson 6 pts, 6 boards
Ritchie 2 pts, 2 asts
Ayers 2 pts
Tennal 3 pts, 2 asts
Clark 1 pt, 1 blk, 3 rebs

The offense looked pretty good...think there's some work to be done on defense, which really surprises me

I think TT did really good for their first game of the season.
I was very impressed with Grant.

The Lady Raiders looked pretty good. Pierson and Grant were truly outstanding, but the rest of the team didn't show up.

Tech needs to get tougher with their post defense.....way too tentative. La Tech players did whatever they wanted down low....

But I suspect that the Lady Raiders will just get better and better as the season progresses. Marsha will have them ready come March!

Grant is going to be a star in Lubbock!

Bummer for the Big XII. Some good individual efforts, but you are not going to win many games against good opponents if you don't block out and rebound. Also did not see the movement without the ball in the game from Tech that I saw in practise.

La Tech looked just as athletic but more disciplined today than La Tech's teams of the last few years. I was surprised that Texas Tech didn't rebound better or play better post defense. One of the announcers made an interesting point about Budke being a former junior college coach and thus being used to having to get new teams to jell quickly.

What a disappointing loss for the Lady Raiders! However, this is just exactly the kind of thing to make a scrappy team like Texas Tech even more blood-thirsty. I have a feeling that we will see a whole new deal come Dogfight time (i.e., conference play). Erin Grant was really awesome in this game, though. Gonna be a big star, if she isn't ALREADY. Let's all pray that she doesn't get hurt!

Well I think PP showed us signs of her old game. Good for her, I was happy for her. I think she will take back her prediction of winning the NCAA championship. Tennessee looked tooooo strong. Those fast guards tore texas tech apart. And Cisti had no answers for La tech post players. They were too physical and strong for the Texas tech players to contend with. I believe La tech was under-rated big time. I feed they should be a top 10 team. And hate to say but the Lady Raiders were over-rated with the way they played.

It was certainly not the start I wanted or expected, but it's only one game and I don't think the team or the coaches feel like they should re-think their goals just yet. Games like this are scheduled to point out weaknesses and that was done today. Now, if the adjustments can be made, we'll be fine, but if not, then winning the conference will be tough, once again.

I really don't like going in to big games like this without at least playing one exhibition game, especially with a frosh PG. That still might not have helped win the game, but it couldn't have hurt. LaTech sure looked like the have come together quickly.

Skaterboy...I think we need to wait a few more games before being so negative about how the LR's season will go. This was the first time they played anyone except themselves. They now have 2 exhibition games to help get them ready for the rest of their nonconference schedule. Marsha will get them where they need to be. There was too much individual play today and not enough team play. To say that their final four dreams are lost is absurd at this point. La Tech is possibly the hardest opponent on Tech's nonconference schedule, which ranks 18th in the nation (SOS is #2 overall behind tennessee with nonconference and conference play) Tech could very easily win-out the rest of their nonconference games. Tech lost by 9 points to a very, very good team in the first game of the year. I don't think they're ready to give up just yet!

I agree, I wouldn't read a whole, whole lot into the first game of the season when all teams have barely gotten in one exhibition game, if that, as I think Texas Tech is the only team of the three to not even have gotten in one game.

I thought TT looked great, Pierson looked to be back in her groove, the freshmen post did what freshmen post do, they foul; but even she looked really good to me. Erin Grant is as awesome as Tech fans' advertised.

Erin Grant had 13 pts and 6 assists too. The LR have much work to do but PG is not an area of concern.

Bill Campbell wrote a nice article about Grant in the DMN. The fact that she is from the Dallas area and gotten the attention of the college beat sportswriters in the DFW area is big. Campbell is a columnist for the DMN and generally writes about the national college football scene. The fact that he would even watch a wcbb game, much less write about it, means that the women's game is getting more attention and more respect.
