This game started out very tight with Solna playing like the disciplined team they are. Solna led by five points early and the game was tied at 12. K-State then began a slow pull away that just built as the game went on. The good news was that Kimmery Newsom had a fine game at guard and we got excellent play from our other reserves including Amy Dutmer and Jessica McFarland. The bad news was that was everyone we had! Eight better be enough. Kimmery had one play that was highlight film quality. She drove the lane and put up a beautiful agressive shot on a contested lay-up. The fans loved it. We know we need Kimmery to step up and its great to see her do it. You go girl!

As we watched the warm ups the light came on in our heads that Chelsea Domenico was not on the floor. She was dressed in a warm up suit and ON CRUTCHES! That was a sight I really did not want to see. Koehn and Newsom are the only "guards" we have without Domenico. Coach Patterson started her "BIG" line-up with Ohlde, Wecker, Koehn, Mahoney and Madden. Sort of a one guard and four forwards deal, or one 5'8" guard along with some really tall guards. Once the team got used to it and settled down they started to work well with that line-up. Mahoney, of course, did play guard and in fact did run the point part of the game.

I don't know what the deal is with Chelsea but it did not look good. She was not putting any weight on her left foot at all. I hope she will be back on the floor soon.

Oh, and yeah, Wecker scored 31 along with 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block. Ohlde had 22 points and 14 rebounds. Koehn scored 21 plus five rebounds and two assists. Mahoney's line was 11 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds. Everybody scored at least six points.

Attendance was 6,375.

Wow. Was this the same team that OSU was nip and tuck with until the last couple of minutes? Impressive. But that is bad news about the depth of the team.

And look at the attendance!! From what we are seeing for exhibition games this year, last year's excitement has definitely carried over.

We could start a pool on what date we hit the million fan mark. Looks like it could be well before post-season.

Domenico looked worse than she actually is. According to another source, Patterson said she had "tweeked" an ankle and is day-to-day. Let's hope that is the truth.

With her out last night, there were some very odd lineup combinations out there. At one time I think our best PG on the court would have been 6'5" Ohlde.

I don't know if I would call the combinations odd but they sure were different. It was fun to see Nicole bringing the ball up the floor. She looked confident and comfortable and reminded me of some fun days at Clay Center High. If only that pescky Wecker weren't around at Marysville to mess things up. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif Wait a minute! I like her now.

I hope that Domenico is going to be back soon. In her abscense the rest of the team took good care of the ball and kept the offense moving (most of the time). It had to be a little bit of a shock for the Solna guards to see Nicole not only bringing the ball up but also guarding them. Most of the time it was Koehn or Mahoney out front though.

This team can MOVE and handle the ball.
