Well, it was a surprising night.
White Team: Nina Norman, Tai Dillard, Coco Reed, Heather Schreiber, and Annissa Hastings
Orange Team: Jamie Carey, Tamra Cobbins, Kala Bowers, Mercedes Williams, and Stacy Stephens with Jody Bell off the Bench.
DNP (injured): Stephanie Thiel, BranDee Fry, and Alisha Sare.
At half time, Coco Reed switched teams.
The #1 surprise -- The White team completely whooped up on the Orange team!
The #2 surprise -- COCO REED, a player fans haven't talked about much this year. Coco looked like the player Conradt was expecting last year before the injury. She was aggressive, shooting well, and getting to the foul line. I think she was the 2nd highest scorer. Unless tonight was a fluke, expect to see a lot of Coco Reed this year.
For the White team:
HEATHER was Heather. She was the high scorer without looking like she was trying that hard.
TAI looked very solid and was shooting well. She will get her minutes this year and could start. She provides maturity and defensive quickness at the 2 guard spot.
NINA looked good. She is very comfortable shooting but from what I've seen so far, she will take her shots within the offense. I've been concerned that she might have trouble adjusting because I understand that she was heavily relied upon for scoring in highschool.
ANNISSA is a demon inside. She shot a little tonight. I really hope she can score more this year. The team needs another scorer at the 4/5 positions with Tracy Cook gone.
For the Orange Team
I have never seen STACY have such a bad night. Better tonight than in an actual game.
KALA didn't help her team much either. Come on Kala, we know you can play!
JAMIE CAREY gave us a short show for a couple of minutes in the third quarter. With her team way down and throwing away her passes, she just took over for a couple of minutes, taking people off the dribble to score. She has beautiful moves.
TAMRA COBBINS had a very hard time against the bigger Nina Norman. If she gets a loose ball or a steal, though, no one can catch her.
I don't think we can tell to much from one scrimmage. I do know we will have a very deep team. I don't know who will start. Jody Conradt may not know. The team is working on some new offenses. They may look a little sloppy in the preseason until they work out the kinks.
To all the Web posters out there (and I've read quite a few) who think the Longhorns will be slow this year, I wish this site had a laughing smilie. Like a certain team up North wearing blue and white, the Horns have tall guards but lack height and depth inside. I think Heather Schreiber is likely to play the four some, maybe a lot, this year.
