From this morning's BDC on the game tonight -
http://www.buffzone.com/news/2008/apr/02/houstons-play-key-to-buffs-wnit-run/
Marquette is 19-14 as are the Buffs.
Marquette's Krystal Ellis scored 40 against Kentucky.

Marquette should not be taken lightly. A couple of years ago they went into Hilton and end ISU's WNIT run. Just hearing Ellis's name brings back nightmares.

Sorry about the nightmares :-) but that game at Iowa State was a nice, close win for MU.
I wish I could have seen the game at Kentucky as it sounds like MU's defense was awesome and Ellis was on fire with her 40 point game. Earlier in the season, I think the rest of the team relied too much on Ellis to do the scoring but they have gotten much better at that as the season has gone on. Now Ellis took most of their shots last game but she had the hot hand so that made sense for them.
I'm sure the game tonight will be very tough - I'm hoping for a good, competitive game and I'm also hoping I can get the video of the game working well on my laptop.

15:37 left first half. CU once again starts out behind as Marquette leads 12-5, but maybe after the results of the last two games CU has the opp right where it wants them.

And Marquette can't hold a lead to save their lives so it should be interesting. They gave up a 10-0 and 14-0 run to Illinois in the first half of that game and gave up something like a 12-0 run to Kentucky.

11:10 left marquette up 25-7. Cu can't get much further down than this if they expect to win.

I think all of the Buff fans must be somewhere tonight. It's 45-25 at the half.
Michigan State won the other semi 58-57 over NC State.

Here comes the run I was worried about. 7-3 Colorado run to start the half and the lead for MU is down to 16.

Congrats to Colorado on a great season - know it's always hard to see the season come to an end.

Congrats Marquette. I really like your team. Quick hands. Shooting the passing lanes. I cannot believe your point guard is just a freshman! Your future is incredibly bright. Good luck in the championship game.

you have to give props to marquette for a great defensive game. Overall nice season but kind of mediocore. good against lesser competition, the pre-season and the first 3 games in the wnit, but the big 12 and teams that are fast and physical and tough minded, not so good. Next year is going to be rough is ajia and others don't toughen up and show up every day and every minute of the game. Jackie showed up her entire career and I hope they retire her number, because she deserves it. Our gaurds have got to get better and learn how to play because they were pathetic tonight and against good teams they were outclassed. They did not evern gaurd houston and for the most part it did not hurt them. I also have some questions about game preperation from the coaching staff. It looks like that they are kind of clueless at the start of the game and it takes them awhile to figure out what to do. Is Blythe still on the team and if she is, is she hurt because she hasnt played in a long time. This season was a step forward, but they need to make another next year, and this game did nothing to help draw fans, because when you have a good crowd you cant get killed on your home court and hope people to come back.

Congrats to Marquette. Excellent game plan and great execution. We will miss you Jackie and Susie.
It sure seemed like there were more than 3,700 people there last night. I would have estimated the attendance at at least 5,500.
By the way, referee Brian Enterline must never enter the CU Events Center again! He is just horrible! (Not the reason we lost the game...he is just horrible!)
Buffs just dug too big a hole tonight to climb out of yet again. You had to know getting down to start the games was going to bite them sooner or later. This time they were down by as much as 25. They did manage to cut the deficit to 12 once but that was as close as they could get. They scored 7 straight to get there but then turned the ball over on their next several possessions which alloed Marquette to open the lead back up to around 20 again.
They just were awful on their shot attempts ..... seemed to miss alsmot everything for a while and ended up shooting around 28% for the first half. Even in the second half, when they improved up into the 40+ % area, they still missed several shots that were very makable.
I gotta say this was poorly officiated, IMO. However, that was not what caused the Buffa to lose the game. If they had made better shots and better decisions with the ball, they might have been able to win. Credit to Marquette for their part in forcing CU to take bad shots and for getting in the passing lanes and coming away with a lot of steals for easy buckets.
Still too much inconsistent play by the Buffs. Last game Aija scores a career high 20, tonight a big goose egg until she hit 2 free throws late in the game. Whitney also had 0 about that same time but she did come on to score several times late in the game. But again she had some questionable plays ... running too far too fast and ending up trying to shoot from under the backboard or under the basket.... which I had not seen very much of in the last couple of games.
Still and all, it was a great run for the Buffs in the post-season. I just wish it could have continued a bit longer.
Congratulations to the Buffs for a very good run. I'm glad to see the team step up so nicely. I wish Jackie and your seniors the best. Thanks for the memories. :CU:

To answer the question about Blythe, which I knew would appear here ;) --she was in her room on an IV because she has had the flu for two days. Powers had been on an IV yesterday but toughed it out.
We were beat by a better team last night. Marquette, I hope you win the WNIT title. Good luck.
CU has had a policy of not retiring numbers. They do honor them by hanging them in the rafters at Coors. Right now there are three women's jerseys hanging in the Events Center. Jackie's should go right up there and when she is eligible, she should be in CU's Hall of Fame.
Jackie and Susie, you will be missed. :CU:
Jackie, you know how I feel about you. Have a great career in the WNBA or playing in Europe and an even better career when you become by peer in the world of accounting.

Tera Bjorklund will go up in the rafters first as she should. I am quite certain that CU athletes can't have their jersey "honored" until they have been out for five years if they do not meet the automatic criteria, which neither Tera nor Jackie have. I believe the automatic criteria include four time first team all conference selection or consensus first team all american, which Mason Crosby achieved his senior year and that's why his jersey was honored in Folsom Field last spring. Tera will be eligible for this honor on a voting basis in 2009 and for the Hall of Fame ballot as well.

Did anyone else see Jen Warden and her family along with Randie Wirt at the game? It was nice to have them "home." Ceal was with them at the top of the north end general admission section as I was leaving.
there was a report in the denver post I think on monday, that says that warden may return to cu as a fundraiser. do not know for shure but that what it says.

Didn't see that, Rock. That would be a great position for her.

The Daily Camera had an article about the team's future. Unfortunately, I don't think it was in depth or insightful.
