View Full Version : I'm done with ESPN
They've used their power much too much, and I've simply had it. This has been rewarding for the Big 12 for a while, and a turkey shoot for the rest.
I'll compile the tourney challenge scores from box scores, but I've had it with the idiots from Bristol. So shoot me.
I'm over. Unless somebody buys you out, I'll never watch your channel again. I'll never visit your website anymore.
One more fan gone from your diminishing fan base. You must be very proud right now. I can smell a rotting fish when I see it.
Goodbye, good day, and goodnight. If you don't believe what I'm saying, that's your problem, not mine.

I'd sleep on it.And e-mail or phone ESPN in the morning!
It's all very well to grumble here, but let's tell the media organizations who let us down, too.

Get a grip....as annoying as ESPN is, without them we wouldn't get to see all these game (and yes they know it).
Kara, Stacy and Doris do an excellent job and I like Fran, - he knows the games, he respects the game and he tells you what's happening in the games as do some others (Brenda for example).
Chipper - I didn't get to see the recruiting piece 'cause I've been at games on Sat/Mon and I never get to see the start of the games.
Like I said in another post - ESPN is lazy when is comes to harvesting stories outside the Tenn/UConn loop.
But until we consistently get other teams winning and Pat/Geno stop creating drama, then we get UConn/Tenn.
Sometimes you have to choose what you love more than what you don't like. Like Swok and Gator going to the regional even though OU won't be there - they love WBB more than they dislike OU not being there. I love WBB more than my trivial annoyance with ESPN at times.

There you go making all kinds of sense. [clap] [clap] [clap]
I gripe about the small stuff but overall, I'm thankful to have the TV and internet that we do have. Because I remember well the old days of Sheryl Swoopes' destruction of the NCAA field and not knowing anything about most of the games until the box score came out in the paper.
And usually once the box scores came out, that's still all you knew. Way different now!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I can gripe with the best of them about ESPN staying too long with the blow-out by the top teams rather than switching to the most competitive game

I wish ESPN (and CSTV) didn't over-promise and under-deliver.
If ESPN said "you'll see as many games as we decide to give you;" if CSTV said "when we remember to check the schedule, we'll hook up to the pregame, game, and postgame audio;" well, I'd probably be happier.

I keep reminding myself of the old adage "Something's better than nothing." I have the Sports Package on SuddenLink (formerly Cox) so got to see several games having ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPNU and ESPNHD. I also got weary of watching the blowout games when there were other good games on then reminded my self of the good old days (said with sarcasm) when I considered myself lucky to get to see the final game of the final four. So thanks ESPN, I wish you could do a better job with wrap around, with determining that Texas probably wants to see BIG XII games before others, and, lest I forget, at least show the WNIT game scores in the crawl; however, I really do appreciate the number of games I do get to see. Oh, and how about hiring Crystal Boyles as a play-by-play or color analyst, she could do way better than several now appearing in these roles. But, again, thanks anyway.
Would you call this an ambivalent post or passive-agressive or just confusing?:p

Well, I must weigh in here. Last night I got home from work all ready to watch all of the NCAA games on tap for the night through my ESPN channels which include ESPN Full Court which we paid for at the beginning of the season during their 'Early Bird' special rate.
My ESPN Full Court channels were not working. It said we weren't subscribers and to subscribe it would cost us $109 plus tax & fees. After spending a combined total of probably 2 hours (the complete first round games) on the phone with our local cable company (Time Warner), I never resolved why suddenly our Full Court channels wouldn't work. I spoke to the regular customer service a couple of times, tech support once (both confirming our subscription paid in full back in October), then the sales department two separate times.
What I learned from these two hours worth of discussions (most of that time was waiting on hold) was that no one could figure out why we no longer had the Full Court channels. Every attempt to reset our guide box failed to bring them back. So I was left to repurchase the subscription (I'm desperate at this point to ensure we will be able to watch my Sooners.) which would be refunded to me after physically going to the local Time Warner office with a special code that showed our original purchase.
Wait, it gets better...........
So when transfered to the sales department to purchase the Full Court channels again, I waited the longest amount of time on hold. You'd figure this would be the department that would have the most amount of phone attendants, b/c it's the revenue generating stream for the company. Evidently not. The wait on hold was so extreme, I had to plug in my cell phone to recharge it while on hold. My cell phone at this point was drained of it's battery juice and I didn't want to lose the connection as I would have to return to the back of the line in their phone que when redailing back to the sales department.
Ok, FINALLY!!!!!! (Que the Hallelujah Chorus)
Someone comes on the line to take my repurchase. But no.......I've confused the sales person, b/c evidently he can't find ESPN Full Court anywhere for me to repurchase. I then get placed on hold again. The next person that comes on the line is a supervisor who informs me that ESPN Full Court is no longer available for purchase. I explain to him their are games still being played on those channels and then get into a minor p!ssing match with him about his explanation that the women's NCAA tournament is only being shown on ESPN's regular channels ESPN, ESPN2 & ESPNU. After convincing him that what I see on my guide screen when on the Full Court channels is the listings for each of the night's games, he then instructs me that I can only purchase the subscription through the "Buy" button on the 'on-screen' guide. THERE'S NO BUY BUTTON TO SELECT on my on-screen guide.
I give up and hang up the phone spent with energy and, for the first time in two complete seasons, depressed and withdrawn from missing my first OU game that is televised. I guess the best description would be a feeling of hopelessness of something I cannot resolve on top of a high level of anxiousness of not knowing what is going on in West Lafayette as the game is well past the hour of tipoff.
So what do I do? I call swok and get play by play. Thanks swok. Sorry for inconveniencing you. Oh......why didn't I log on to streaming audio or gametracker you may be asking? My computer decided to align with the technology Gods in their vengeful war that slaughtered my night of watching what would be my Sooners' last game of the season.
I went ahead and ate my home cooked spaghetti and resolved to watching Texas join my slaughtering night of defeat. But what's this?!!!!!!!...........ESPN suddenly decides to switch to the OU/ND game in the final minutes of regulation?!!!!!! OH, MY SWEET JESUS! At last, I grin and raise my fork to the heavens bellowing with sarcastic staccato laughter. I've risen from the ashes of conglomerate corporate chattels, incompetent enslaved labor, and the mother of all motherboard massacres. I'm, at last, at peace; for the original flow of what was to be my 'anti-Shock & Awe' relaxing Tuesday evening has filled the living room world back to its order.
Oh, but how I wish my Sooners could have completed that 'All is Right With the World' order. Or did they?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay. I got a little literarily creative on ya'. Sorry, I just went with it.
But seriously.......does anyone know what happened? What or who was responsible for my Tuesday evening nightmare? One nice lady I spoke to at Time Warner here in Dallas said this was like her 10th call regarding my situation. She thought it had to do with ESPN shutting off the access code for Full Court. B/c of my past experiences with Time Warner, I'd like to believe that, but I'm afraid I'm still questioning if it was Time Warner. I have no clue.
What I do know is, we are moving this next month and we will definitely be leaving Time Warner for satellite service even though we don't care for having a dish on our new home's roof.

I know in the past when a feed has not come through on Full Court, I've been told that was ESPN.
I was going to purchase the 1/2 season next year, because this per day business is for the birds. It seems every year I have to explain to my Cox Cable Operators how ESPN handles the women's tournament. I finally got what I wanted on Saturday, 4 channels of full court. Sunday......nada, 1 channel only.
But, like others have mentioned: I remember watching Kim Mulkey play on CBS in the final game. And that was the only game we got to see for the entire tourney :D

Bless ESPN's heart - they have the Saturday game with Stanford/Pitt on at
9:30 pm MT - which means for the Pitt fans it will be 11:30 pm
That's a lack of respect - they have plenty of time during the day when they're showing MLB, horse racing and drag racing.
