...but she's still deciding between volleyball and basketball. Here's the story on 6'2" Christina Houghtelling.

She is an unbelievable athlete, easily the most mobile big player in the state. She has that coast-to-coast ability that we saw glimpses of from Katie Robinette...only Houghtelling is faster. She jumps out of the gym, and you know if John Cook (NU volleyball coach) is looking at her, she is a big time athlete.

Yori has already offered her a scholarship, and Cook is seriously considering her. Maybe she can pull a Greichaly Cepero and play both sports.

Regardless of who she signs with, an in-state recruit with a perfect GPA, and sparkling credentials is a big plus for NU.

But doesn't it seem like an all-state basketball player from Cambridge, NE (See Kubick, Nicole and Jami) belong in a Husker basketball uniform???

Sounds good on paper, and she'd most likely play right away. If she can play, she could help both efforts and give something Connie Yori didn't have much of at Creighton, a solid post player.

Hoguhtelling chooses volleyball over basketball and accepts John Cook's offer over Connie's... Maybe she'll still consider playing both sports at NU...

""It was tough telling her that I was going to play volleyball instead of basketball," Houghtelling said. "But I'd like to play for a national champion someday, and I just think volleyball is the way to go." -- Christina Houghtelling, in the Omaha World Herald, 23 October 2002

Christina, work on that volleyball first. If you can help basketball out? GREAT! But work on that volleyball first.
