Has anyone seen Dawana Bonner from Nell Fortner's George Washington team. The girl is 6'4" and 135 pounds! Talk about SLIM! She is a PLAYER though.

er, wouldn't that be from Auburn?

Nell coaches Auburn not George Washington. Melissa Maines is an assistant coach there. Melissa was an assistant at Tech with Marsha Sharp.
er, wouldn't that be from Auburn?
Sure it would. :oo
Bonner is leading in scoring in this game. She just snagged another rebound. She looks SO thin she seems almost fragile to this old round guy. She is a striking player in more ways than one to me but I almost want to "protect" her from the other players. Clearly she needs no help from anybody though.
Auburn v the OU front line would be a SERIOUS contrast.

Baylor wins 88-67.

In the Hartford-Cuse game, Syracuse' head coach wanted a timeout, but apparently Melissa Barlow didn't see him. It appeared to me that he went to the scorer's table, and screamed "timeout" or something.
Anyway, Barlow t'ed him, and he nearly got ejected for a second when he just about exploded after the foul. Hartford hit both freebies to take the lead 50-49, and possession of the ball.
Hartford player was fouled with 3 seconds left on the shot clock on the subsequent possession, hit 1-2, but it's now 51-all with 2 minutes left.
:) :) :)
Hartford's now leading 54-53 after a layup, foul and FT.
51 seconds left.
:) :) :)
Syracuse is now leading 55-54 after a short jumper. Hartford's previous possession ended with a foul and two missed free throws!
Hartford has the ball for the possible win, 22.5 seconds left.
:) :) :)
Shaefer hit a THREE for Hartford with about 15 seconds left!
Syracuse turned the ball over!
Hartford has the ball with a two point lead with just 5.8 seconds left...
Syracuse fouls immediately on the throw-in.
Hartford hits the first FT, and the second! This game is history, with Syracuse trailing 59-55 with 5.2 seconds left.
Hartford gets their second-ever NCAA tournament win, while Syracuse falls to 0-4 all-time.
Nice game, crazy finish! Looks like we won't have six Big East-Big 12 matchups in the second round... Yesterday on the ESPN board a 'cuse poster was saying that he liked their chances against A&M in the second round.
:rotflol:
FINAL: Hartford 59, Syracuse 55

WAY TO GO UHART HAWKS!!!!!
Who to root for in a matchup with Texas A&M...Root for the Big 12 or root for ChipperTeam New England....what a dilemma ;)
I was very conflicted about whether or not to pick Wyoming in my ESPN tourney challenge brackets, but decided that they just didn't have enough for me to justify the upset. They almost made me wrong, but in the end Pitt had just a little too much for the Cowgirls and won by five in a game that was close all the way. Congrats to Wyoming for a fine year, and their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.
Speaking of the ESPN bracket contest, here's some trivia regarding the Hoopscoop group versus the ESPN All-Stars.
Percentage of perfect brackets through the first quarter of the first round:
ESPN All-Stars: 4.5% (24 of 534)
Hoopscoop: 18.5% (10 of 54)
With a group size almost 10 times as large as Hoopscoop, they only have 2.4 times as many perfect brackets through eight games!
We are good. Very, very good!

What's with flyover country today? Other than the late Wyoming loss to a team seeded five spots higher, the only flyover loss was to (who else?) another flyover team!

She played in the McDonalds game the same year that CP and AP played, I think she's actually gained weight since that game

Depaul and Marist is a very good game......Marist leads 60-57 with 6:30 to go.
New Mexico and West Virginia in a good game...WVU up 36-29 at the start of the 2nd half.
Stanford in control: 53 to 30 over Cleveland State with about 14 minutes to go.
I'm not a fan of blowouts.....unless it's my team. These 7/10 seed games have been excellent today.
Marist was way down in this game.
I'm starting to think that once you get past UConn and RU, the Big East isn't all it's been cracked up to be.
:) :) :)
Wow!
9 point lead by the Red Foxes, currently on a 22-2 run!
:) :) :)
And if stunning doesn't lead to bizarre, UNM is now trailing 5 West Virginia by only four points with 14:23 left!
:) :) :)
Marist-DePaul is history folks.
The Red Foxes lead by 13 with 1:22 left, and they are going to the line to shoot two.
GO RED FOXES!
:) :) :)
Marist closed out this game on an astonishing 32-2 run.
Big East, are you hearing footsteps?

N Mexico takes the lead 53-52 with 4 minutes to go. The Lobos crowd is going crazy. WVU has been on a drought for 3 minutes.

How can it be fair for a 5 seed who worked hard all year ( West Virgina) to have to play the Lobos as a 12 seed in the Pit? The crowd is really influencing this game. I don't have a dog in this fight, but this really seems like a homer advantage presented by the selection committee.

I agree. At least move it up the road, like Iowa State has done playing in Des Moines.
I think it's at least a little different if you aren't playing in your home arena.
Does anyone have a chance at LSU at home?
Tennessee may be playing Purdue on Purdue's home court (should they both advance).

Oh my! One of the WVU players gets T'd up for I'm not sure what. But I give the benefit of the doubt to the official, as June Corteau called it.
Official explanation: dead ball, contact foul
NM now up by 3 with just over 2 to go.
Lobos by three with 2:28 remaining.
My oh my!

West Virginia had a lead as large as 8, and they've played themselves out of it..Give NM their props. They hung in and the crowd got into it.
Marist was on fire down the stretch. I like the way they attack people and like their basketball smarts

West Virginia 61, New Mexico 60....Chakia Cole showed again why she's one of the better unsung players in the Big East.. New Mexico should have won this game though...Just a few mistakes in the final 45 seconds got 'em
New Mexico had more than a fair chance, and was unable to convert on their final possession.
Give a lot of credit to WV for sucking it up and coming through in clutch time.
Great game!

I didn't have a personal favorite out of WVU/NMU, but found myself pulling for West Virginia down the stretch just because of their having to play on New Mexico's home floor( I know we've discussed this at length, and I don't have a perfect solution for it, but this system still sucks for the unlucky teams who have to deal with it. ) On top of that, they had to deal with a very questionable technical, and a blown out of bounds call down the stretch that gave NM a last chance to win. Nice job by West Virginia to overcome all those obstacles and win.
I guess the Pit will be a little emptier on Monday now.

Carolyn Peck acknowledges this LSU team is a better team than those of the past few years, and she gives the credit to Van Chancellor's coaching. Specifically that he's encouraging everyone to shoot and seek their own special role.
LSU is up early, 14-7.

Auborn played KSU in Manhattan during the WNIT tourney two years ago. Bonner was a freshman then and I remember thinking her legs looked so thin, as if they could just break right out from under her. She has great moves and holds her own very well considering she has little more than skin on her bones. I'm only 5'4 and would feel beautiful if I weighed 135! I imagine the kid has spent most of her life trying to gain weight....

That was a heartbreaking loss for UNM. The Lobos had chances to win - credit WVa's defense and UNM's struggles on getting their offense moving.
I didn't appreciate the job Cole and a couple of others did climbing all over Dionne's back with no calls but that didn't change the game. Knowing the Lobo crowd, they may show up to cheer against WVa like they did for Duke against Tech - just for the hell of it.
I appreciate WVa's athleticism and good defense disappointed in UNM's blown chances - I didn't care for the way WVa plays ball - but I suppose that's Big East ball for you.
As far as the T goes - what I saw was this. The WVa player was all over Kimble who fell to her knees hugging the ball and called a timeout. At that point - right in front of the official the WVa player stepped over the top of the crouching Kimble. It sure didn't look like she was trying to keep her balance to keep from falling on top of Kimble - so why STEP over the top of Kimble It looked pretty damn dis-respectful to me --- I thought it deserved a T.
I was impressed that the coach let the team captain handle it on the court with the official - he didn't go off on the official.
Didn't the NCAA try not having "home courts" for a while and it didn't pay off. It isn't UNM's fault they WON the MWC and had a host spot in the NCAA. It's also not their fault that their fans love women's basketball and show up - there was a decent crowd for the afternoon's games and a pretty decent crowd staying for the Vandy game. Schools like WVa and Baylor need to step up and put in a bid to host.
Baylor looked good against FSU - but then FSU doesn't have a lot so it was hard to tell. Tisdale is such a great leader for that team. Pitt was impressive against Wyoming - the Cowgirls had their chances too and a partisan Pit crowd solidly on their side. But they let the time clock wind down over and over again, forced themselves into desperation shots - it wasn't pretty at times. Pitt's got some athletes - Zellous (sp) is a game changer - she's got the hops and the smarts.
I wore out at the Vandy/Montana game - it wasn't much of a contest.
Good for the Marist Foxes and a 32-2 run over DePaul - very cool!
Good job by all the Big 12 teams - I was thrilled to see the Cyclones come back in the 2nd half and play their game.
I think we should adopt UTEP as a sistern....the Miners kicked some WKY butt!

I kept thinking that one of the player's names for UTEP sounded familiar. Then it was confirmed for me in this morning's paper . . . Natasha Lacy played for TCU for 3 years before transferring to UTEP. I can't remember the circumstances just now as to why she transferred.

I don't know.
When Texas Tech knocked UNM out of the tournament at the Pit in '03, Lobo fans packed the place to cheer for Duke over Tech in the next game.
(But that may have had as much to do with them still being mad at Cisti Greenwalt as it did with Tech having just beat UNM.)
