OOPs. I didn't see article on front page so I linked it. Now I see the article is already linked.

Hanson's illness is very unfortunate for her and could be a critical problem for the team. Patterson is whistling in the dark. Sure, KSU will still be good but the conference season is grueling.

That's exactly why I don't expect KState to take the conference crown. THey'll give people trouble, and certainly compete, but w/o a proven PG and so few bodies (but lots of centers!!!), I just can't see them finishing strong in the conference.

Jennifer, I must disagree. Even though KSU will be short on numbers (9 players at the current moment), they have everyone back from last years team with the exception of Rethman. While they are loaded with center-type players, you can expect Mahoney to play more guard and fill the spot vacated by Rethman. Domenico, will contribute at the guard spot as well, and will provide some much needed help to Koehn in the point guard role. The new freshmen center McFarland will be able to give Ohlde a much needed break every once and a while, and Madden showed much improvement today from last year. Overall, KSU will still have the necessary talent to battle for the conference title. Lack of depth was overcome last year even with inexperience. Only injuries can hinder this team, because talent-wise they are as good as anyone else in the league.

"but w/o a proven PG"

If Laurie Koehn isn't combat proven, then nobody in the league is.

Sure, she's proven, I just don't see her as a point guard.

Chipper, you are right that she is proven; however, Jennifer is also right in that she is truly not a PG. I would like to see Domenico jump in and handle that role this year. She didn't get a lot of playing time last year, but she has the luxury of spending the last year getting ready for that role. When I first saw her last year, I didn't feel she would see much time on the court, but after a year of practice, she looked much better handling that role during the first practice anyway. I am sure Koehn will continue to play at the point, but hopefully she can move over to a wing some more this year. Yesterday in practice she must have hit 10 straight 3s during a drill they were doing. I hope she can stay on target. 20 more days until we get to find out.

True, Koehn may not "truly" be a point guard, but...Last year, she did the job and did it effectively.

If Domenico doesn't have what it takes, you know you have somebody you can fall back on.

Kansas State may be a tad overrated nationally. Whoever has them at #3 in the top 25 needs to call the Betty Ford clinic and enroll themselves. But, the Wildcats will seriously factor in this conference race.
