http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif Plenette looks like she's been a workhorse! I'm so excited about her return to this team. I think she looked better than anyone at the practice and appeared to be a leader today. She is on a mission and I really think she will finally have the year everyone has expected her to have. She has so much potential and I can't wait to see her against La. Tech.
I am very impressed with all of the freshmen and transfers. Even the walk-ons looked really good.
The conditioning of this team has come so far from last year. Everyone is in better shape and they look like they have a lot more endurance. Coach Sharp has really emphasized conditioning this offseason and her players have worked extremely hard. They know that physical strength and endurance is all that separates them from being national champions. The talent is there, but physical conditioning has not been the best it could be. This year is already so different.
Erin is just silky smooth. She does not look like a freshman. She made some great passes during their half-court drills. I would expect for her to start from day one, but I have a feeling Sharp may start Mik against La Tech just because of her experience and strength. Both can be prolific scorers if left open and both can drive to the basket. That's something Tech lacked last year with Candi at the point. I think both Mik and Erin will see a lot of minutes. Mostly Erin at point with Mik backing her up and Mik also at the 2 behind Jia. Mik is a stud! She's got some huge guns and looks so strong. She was draining NBA range threes. I think Natalie may finally have some 3-pt competition on the team.
Jia worked hard this summer at increasing her range and performed well in helping the usa bring home their gold medal from brazil. She looks more athletic than ever. She's a lock for starting at the 2.
They say Casey Jackson worked the hardest this summer. She has a great work ethic and just does all of the little things to help her teammates. Hands down the best defender on the team. If she has increased her offensive skills, the 3 spot is hers. I see Nat playing this position as well and could possibly start at the 3 or come in behind Jia at the 2. Nat has lost weight and looks like she's in better shape. If her defense has improved, then she'll be a huge threat. We all already know what she can do on the offensive end, but in the past her defense has been a liability.
Chesley will see playing time at the 3 and possibly the 2. She is so athletic and has a great vertical leap. She is expected to be another great defender, but also offers a great mid-range jumper.
Plenette is a lock at the 4 spot. Jametra looked good as well and has some serious hops and wingspan. Jametra and Plenette have been working out together since Plenette's suspension and they've just made each other so much more competitive. Jametra looks like she'll be the first in after plenette. Latoya will see some time at the 4 also.
Cisti and Jolee both looked good. Not sure who will be starting at the 5. I would hope that it would be Cisti because of her height and blocking skills, but I just see Sharp starting Jolee because of her leadership and range. She's been working on her long-range shots and will definitely be draining some bombs this season.
I'm sure the positions will vary based on the team we are playing. Coach Sharp has so many options. She's got to be salivating right now over all the possible combinations and game plans she will be able to use.
It appears that another walk-on has been added to the team. All I know about her (Ashley Bobb) is that she played at Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas and is also on the track team at Tech. She was the TAPPS 5A player of the year and her team won the championship.
Looks to be the most exciting LR ball since 10 years ago. I smell a repeat in Atlanta!!! I may be optimistic, but this team is just so talented and deep. I'm expecting no less from them and they aren't either. Plenette announced during the practice that they were going to win the national championship, and I believe her!
TT -- national champs 1993 and 2003 -- wouldn't that be sweet!?
