I've reserved the HoopScoop name for this year's ESPN challenge contest.

You can join by creating an entry, then assigning your entry to HoopScoop. The group is private, so anyone who doesn't know the password already should send me a PM and I'll let you know what it is.

Do I have to? :)

I will say that in Baylor's championship season, out of all of my one entries, I was in the 99.9% percentile. I'll brag on that one for the rest of my life.

I have 10 brackets in (out of 54 in the hoopscoop group), and my best one is only barely in the top half at #25 after the completion of the first round. :)

If I had known that the officials in the Utah-Purdue game were going to allow anything short of first degree murder on the inside, I wouldn't have picked Utah to beat Purdue. The odder thing is that they made a lot of trivial calls in the open court for minor touch fouls that had zero impact on the play. I don't know how you can get both in one package, but that's how it worked. Purdue's a very physical, bruise it inside kind of team, and that gave Purdue a significant edge that they rode to a win. Sadly, the fact that it was on their home court made it seem much like homerism for the refs.

Why do I doubt that OU will get that kind of officiating if we happen to get to OKC and play Tennessee? Ironically, in the ORU-TN game, I thought the officials went out of their way NOT to favor Tennessee on the marginal calls at both ends. It was quite a contrast.

We won't discuss my brackets.

Percentage of people throughout ESPN's brackets who picked the Big XII to win each of the first round games:

Texas A&M: 98.48%
Oklahoma State: 94.78%
Baylor: 94.74%
Oklahoma: 86.36%
Kansas State: 72.19%
Texas: 71.50%
Iowa State: 52.31%
Nebraska: 36.64%

Which equates to a 7.5% chance of all eight teams winning their first round games. Good job beating the odds, y'all.

So, the next question: Of those who picked the Big XII schools to win their first round game, how many picked them to win the second round?

Texas A&M: 84.08%
Baylor: 78.92%
Oklahoma State: 69.17%
Oklahoma: 61.36%
Kansas State: 34.42%
Iowa State: 5.09%
Nebraska: 2.73%
Texas: 2.67%

And just for the fun of it, percentages of people who picked Big XII schools to win it all:

Texas A&M: 0.89%
Baylor: 0.55%
Oklahoma: 0.40%
Oklahoma State: 0.27%
Texas: 0.13%
Kansas State: 0.08%
Nebraska: 0.07%
Iowa State: 0.04%

A&M's by far the lowest no. 2 seed by this metric -- the others all have at least 4 percent of bracketfillerouters picking them to win it all.

But haven't you heard? There are just seven real contenders in this tourney, and there's everyone else. Now we could discuss how A&M got a better seed than LSU or Rutgers, but that would just spoil the whole image of the killer elites thing.
