The Daily Nebraskan is reporting that Shannon Howell is off the Cornhusker team dropping their scholarship players on hand at eight for the upcoming year. Let's hope that the injury bug stays away this year or Coach Yori will be (further) up a creek.

O.K., Chipper has decided not to make cruel, personal, sarcastic attacks on players via the internet. Many of us think this is a good thing. However, I'd have to say the new Nebraska coach seems to agree with Chipper's underlying complaints about attitude. Chipper complained about lack of effort. Yori's actions say some players still aren't willing to make the total effort, demanded by the new coach, involving training, schoolwork, and personal behavior. Where any individual player didn't meet Yori's standards, of course, I don't know.
I'm a little surprised Yori says she doesn't expect to add any players to the roster. The remaining players are going to need a lot of endurance and strength of will. These are tough times for Nebraska women's basketball. I hope Yori's efforts make a positive difference soon.

I guess this opens the door for Margaret Richards or Shah Roberts to become a starter. Then again, being a starter doesn't mean a whole lot on a team of 8 players. Assistant coach Angela Timmons will have to suit up if the Huskers have any hope of holding a practice scrimage,
Paul Sanderford failed to recruit well rounded people over the last few years, and the program is now paying the price. Out of the last 3 recruiting classes, only a few quality players were produced, and only a handful will play a full 4 seasons at NU.
Here's how Sanderford's last three recruiting classes worked out:
Players still with team (8)
Keasha Cannon
Greichaly Cepero
Amanda Cleveland
Jina Johansen
Alexa Johnson
Katie Morse
Margaret Richards
Shahidrah Roberts
Players who didn't pan out (10)
Steph Jones: No longer with team
Isha Kelly: No longer with team
Paige Sutton: No longer with team
Amanda Bucholz: No longer with team
Candace Blackbird: No longer with team
Karsen Muhler: No longer with team
Jennifer Jaracz: No longer with team
Katie Robinette: No longer with team
KC Cowgill: No longer with team
Shannon Howell: No longer with team

wow, now the question is......can they be the Duke of '02, who played the balance of their season with 8 roster players.

Well if anybody has an Alana Beard and an Iciss Tillis for rent, that would be fine.
If Connie Yori isn't adding some walk-ons to this club, the woman is living in fantasyland. I think she'll reconsider that policy quickly. I've known Connie long enough to know that while she may stubborn, headstrong, and emotional, she's not stupid.
Eight players for the entire season and only one as a record actually playing well.
However, I cannot voice disagreement. The dismissals where all people that haven't really make their minds up that they are going to contribute to this deal.
All the progress made since 1996 has really been wasted. I shudder to think how much attendance will drop off this season. I'm pretty sure NETV won't show any games this year. And based on, the negative reaction of fans to football recent misfortunes, I don't think it bodes well for season ticket sales.
Perhaps this is an instance where things have to get worse before they get better. I hope that's the case. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif
Honestly, I'm scared of where the program is going.

Sounds like Oklahoma in the 1996-97 season. Of course, Coach Coale was lucky enough to find Phylesha Whaley.

From what I observed of Connie Yori in her 10 years at Creighton, she won't stomach not being competitive. Even tho her teams rarely had a quality big girl, they just about always fought harder than any MVC team we played at SMS. I thot she surrounded herself with quality assistants too. No doubt results will be on the down-side for a year or two with what's happened at Nebraska lately, but I'd expect her teams to begin getting attention and respect by year 3. How well she's able to recruit will be the big question, IMHO, on how far NU goes. Her on-the-court coaching is usually terrific.
