Welcome to Big 12 Womens Basketball 2002-2003. ChipperSports is proud to once again be a part of the fastest growing Womens College Basketball conference in the country.

In a new season, a lot of new changes and new faces. New coaches have come. New players are in. Its like the changing of seasons.

And this fan has also decided to make a change.

In looking back at last season, I realize that I have forgotten a cardinal rule. I had forgotten that these wonderful players are first flesh-and-blood human beings and foremost somebody's daughter, somebody's friend, somebody's sister. Some one on this earth loves that player very much, even if she didn't perform well and had an off night.

Therefore this season I will institute a No-Bashing Policy.

On this board I will not bash ANY player, coach or fan. There will not be any demeaning nicknames towards any player, coach or fan that are unwarranted or not even to the level of performance. All posts will be of a more positive tone at all times or an even tone.

This does not mean that the Organisation will not continue to have strong opinions. It just means that those opinions will not be of a mean-spirited nature of last season in regards to my own team or any team.

What led me to this policy was hearing from a friend of mine who was the target of some of my barbs of last season. Her response. "I prayed for you, because there was so much ill in your heart to want to hurt another person, even on here."

I honestly felt 1-inch high hearing that. I let being a fan, and being a bad fan at that, get above being human, and that was wrong.

This year most likely will not be successful for the team I choose to root for, but at the same time should they venture here they should not have to be subjected to some "fan" ripping them every five minutes, losing is hard enough.

I am so happy you have made this decision, Chipper. You are so clever and funny, and I am delighted you will use your gifts in a positive way. I hope we will all follow your lead.

It is for this reason, that this board is the only one and will most likely remain the only one worthy of discussion. To all involved keep up the excellent discussion, good luck to your team(s) this season, and let's hoop it up!

Well said Chipper. These players and coaches don't owe ME anything. God's Speed ladies!

Chipper----

Noticed just a bit of wiggle room in your pledge. Sonething about
"unless warrented" (sp)---Was that meant as a bit of grey area or are you fully swearing off all negativity----Surely there is room for a bit of poetic license to open the door for some clever sarcasm or maybe a smidgen of irony.

To answer your query. There were still be some sarcasm and some humor. Criticism with irony or humor isn't bashing, often it can be a statement of fact.

My pledge has to do with more of the mean-spirited elements I used in the past couple years.

Last season I refered to Nebraska for example is being the equalvalent to being an ad for contraceptive after a particularly poor performance. Such vitriol as that cannot stand.
I said some rather demeaning things last season and a retrospect, some of the posting were wicked-tempered and wrong regardless of the level of ineptitude or lack of effort shown.

There are better ways to show displeasure without being demeaning. There is enough mean-spiritedness in the world as it is, and I've simply decided not to contribute to it.

Chipper---

Just glad to hear the insight, albeit sarcasm, of the Chipster will still float around these postings. I truly felt over the past couple of years, the vitiole you sent was directed far more at the Coach than the individual ladies. Yes, a bit of overlap occurred. Just be sure to stay fun and clever---biting at times is probably justified for us all. Heck, in this age of Flag waving, surely we have a bit a the 1st amendment to back us up.

Does this policy also apply to other boards that you post on? http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif
Good luck with the policy and sit back and enjoy the upcoming season.....
