View Full Version : Leon Barmore has retired...
again. The 57-year-old coach of Lousiana Tech has retired for the second time in 3 seasons.
He retired previously, but was lured back as head coach when assistant coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson declined to follow the legend at Tech.

This doesn't surprise me at all.....I think LA Tech's been grooming Budke for the head coach position. Barmore didn't travel to Hawaii or one/two of the West Coast games last year...
he doesn't like to fly http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif With La Tech's move to the conference that's spread all over creation and back, figured it was only a matter of time........
He was certainly a master-mind in the world of coaching women's basketball.

According to my sources in Louisiana, this has been coming and expected. I guess my beef is that he had a top recruiting class and just maybe some of the prospects chose La. Tech because of him. Now what? Anyway, he was a great teacher of the game. I remember the early days when he was the assistant under Sonja Hogg and they ran the table on everybody. I wish him well. Just asking..........does this re-open the door for KMR or is she satisfied and happy at BU?

My understanding is that Mulkey-Robertson was so offended by the previous offer from La Tech that she would not under any circumstances ever consider returning there.

Good for KMR..........stay in the Big XII, best conference in the nation, Kim.
At this point in Coach Mulkey-Robertson's career a move to from Tech to Tech would be at best a lateral move, and in my mind it would be a step down to a lesser job. Things look very bright in Lubbock for the women's team. They have great attendance and a terrific team, one that should challenge for the national championship this year.

KMR is very happy in Waco, thank you very much.
In response to inquiries about Barmore and La Tech, she states that this is home and wants her family to grow up here.
swok, I had one of the brain things, what do your call them?
I can't go a week without putting my foot in my mouth at least once, or else I would worry that something was wrong with me.

I may have to pay more attention to LA Tech. Budke is almost a home boy. He should know something about the Big Twelve (Eight). He is from Salina, Kansas.
