Oklahoma's Courtney Paris remains one of 31 candidates in women's basketball vying for the 2008 Naismith Trophy, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Tuesday. This is the third season Paris has been a Naismith semifinalist. The 2007 National Player of the Year was one of four finalists for the award as both a freshman and sophomore.

I think at this point you would be hard pressed to find a player who has done more than Andrea Riley. Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Riley is a good player, but some of her tactics on the court takes away from it. I would take Courtney's attitude over hers any day.
Congrats Courtney!

Wildcatfan - Can you be more specific about her so called TACTICS? Courtney Paris is a great player no doubt and some don't like her tactics lol. However, you cannot argue the results. Riley plays with tremendous energy and passion. A fine young lady who at 5'5" is dynamite on the floor.

First, I am not a traditional KSU fan. However, if you want to see examples of Riley's "tactics", find a recorded copy of the KSU-OSU game. That game was quite revealing. Just ask Marlies Gipson about those tactics. She got shoe prints all over the back of her shorts and jersey.
Tactics aside, I think Courtney Paris has done more than Riley; for that matter, who has done more for their team than Marlies Gipson? Last year they were kicking butt until she got hurt. KSU skidded downhill FAST the rest of the season. This year NOBODY expected them to do much better. However, with Marlies, look where they are.
IMO, Riley has outstanding abilities. However, there is NO ONE else on that team who can contribute as much, therefore, their entire game centers around Riley. Not completely unlike Courtney's first season with the Sooners. Courtney has proven herself for 2.5 seasons. Even this season, when there are MANY other scoring options for the Sooners, Courtney maintains her dominance and her double-double streak. When Riley dominates on a team with lots of other strong scoring options (and that time will come very soon), then she will be recognized for that.
For now, like wildcatfan, I cannot get past watching her throw a tantrum all over Gipson's back.

Thanks giraffespots, you summed it up quite nicely. I would also like to mention the shove to the back that Riley gave Kincaid when Kari blocked her out on a free throw.
I never said she was a bad player, I just don't like the extra's she brings to the floor. Just my opinion, of course.

You've got to be kidding me. The kid is 5'5" and your Wildcats were throwing elbows, shoving, pushing her all game. They tried to knock her down several times after she shot free throws. I don't blame her for fighting back. We obviously weren't watching the same game. :rotflol:

The other thing that I've noticed about Riley is that she's a great offensive player, but they do their best to hide her on defense. Again, taking the KSU game as an example, you certainly didn't see Riley trying to guard Lehning.

That was the middle push of about 3 in a couple of minutes time. I saw that and thought a foul should have been called. She also came down court right before or after that and pushed off to get open.

Bobcat, I agree with your thoughts most of the time, but in this one, I'm going to have to differ. I actually didn't see either extremes while watching the game. I thought KState's defense was aggressive, but no different than what I've grown used to seeing opponents bring against CP3.
Riley is an outstanding talent. She uses her speed, exceptional ball handling and body well. However, scoring 45, 38, 35 and other high totals are going to catch B12 coach's attentions real quick. They will scout and gameplan on stopping her, or at least minimizing her abilities to penetrate splitting defenses and scoring, drawing fouls or both. Sooner, Horn and Bear fans are used to this with defensive gameplans that have been implemented against Courtney, Tiffany and Sophia respectively.
It will be interesting in watching to see how Riley handles the attention and focus that is being heaped on her by opponent's schemes to try and shut her down or at least limit her success. I am confident she will welcome the new attention and rise above it just as those three outstanding players I mentioned above did or have done. Great players always do.

TX4OU - Mind you I am not COMPLAINING about the physical play with Riley. I was merely pointing out that it was not one-sided as Wildcatfan would have you think. I saw the game, and I saw the physical play towards Andrea by the K-State players. She responded. WHY even bring it up and criticize the kid. She responded in the same manner in which she was treated. Simple as that.
Wildcatfan was the one who was criticizing Andrea for her TACTICS. She was being shoved, elbowed, etc. I saw it with my own eyes. No problem with that, but when she responds suddenly SHE is the villian. Do'nt think so. That dog don't hunt here.
She is pound for pound the best player in the Big 12.

I'm reserving my vote until the end of the conf. season. Like I said, I will be interested in seeing our outstanding coaches in the B12 devise schemes to try and stop her. If she can overcome these intense efforts to shut her down and continue to perform like she has been doing, then I will be sold.
There's no doubt that she has incredible skill and speed. I will be watching to see if she has the maturity and leadership to handle the turned up pressure/rigors of being the focus and how she holds up to this increased intense focus as the season goes on.

I like Riley - but sometimes when I see her play, I think
Andrea Riley = Kenya Larkin
While I respect Kenya as a ball player, I think she got more intentional fouls than any player I've ever watched - a Tech games come to mind where she hooked Perkins and then shoved her hard into the backstop and got an intentional foul.
