Thought I'd go ahead and get the thread started. We had to give away our tickets to this game, due to work conflicts. Thought it was going to be on CSTV, per info on Baylor Women's Basketball team, but further investigation on the TV schedule showed men's game instead. After an email exchange, found out that CSTV planned on carrying it but backed out for the other game. Looks like only streaming video for this one...BUMMER!
A little nervous about this game. Remember Gary Blair saying that he thought Texas had the best chance of beating OSU because of their presses. Our guards and wings are pretty good ball handlers but sometimes pressing teams can make you play faster than you're ready for. Maybe the Bears can jump out in transition and score a few baskets off the break. If so, perhaps we can get Texas out of the press.
Texas is righting the ship...I just don't know where they are right now and how they'll react to pressure. As for us, we can't feel tired or look past this game. I KNOW our coaches will work to prevent that!
What I wish for in this game...
*Melissa and Kelli to both get into the game for enough minutes to experience the rivalry aspect of this game. Kelli, as a native Texan and a kid who's followed Baylor, probably already understands that intellectually, but now needs to understand how that translates onto the court. As for Melissa, all competition in the Big 12 is intense, but I think it goes up a level when the Texas schools play each other as they compete for recruits, braggin' rights and because these teams have a lot of Texas kids on them that went to school together or played against each other interscholastically or on AAU teams.
*Jessika Bradley to have a good game and even manage to score a couple of baskets that come easily in the flow of the game. She's struggling to score right now, and even though Kim has made it clear that's not what she needs from Jess, imagine if we do start getting it from her. She reminds me a little of Abby on the championship team. I don't know how many times Abby would shoot right under the basket and it would go right over the basket to the other side or bang off the iron. Free throws--YUCK! It was as if she was way too strong to shoot that close. Then, in the LSU semifinal game she hit several big shots in a short period of time driving to the basket and aced her free throws. Something clicked in that game. I don't want it to take Jess that long, but I feel the "click" is just one offensively well-played, confidence-building game away for her.
*Jhas to have a signature game at the same time as Jess Morrow.
*Tizzy to have a steady ball-handling game and to hits her free throws.
*Danielle to continue to be aggressive without fouling.
*Rachel to just keep being, well, Rachel.
I expect UT to come out fired up and ready to get a season-building win in Waco. Hope the crowd will turn out to help our Lady Bears. Sic'em

Just bumping this back up toward the top, in front of all of the RSS releases that have come out over the past couple of days.

Lady Bears up at the half, 28-24. It's been a very close game thoughout the first half tonight. The 'Horns have been all over the boards! Both teams went through a period of several turnovers, thus keeping the score fairly low at half.

Yes, rebounding has kept Texas in the game - but the horns need to get that shooting percentage up if they are going to win. And Baylor going 5 of 10 from the line kind of masks the situation to me. They could easily blow this one open with a few more made shots and free throws unless the horns figure out how to get more people scoring.

Baylor up by just 5 with 9:22 left. I'm surprised the horns are staying around. Raven has finally scored this half, but Tisdale is getting hot. Lots of players on both sides with 3 fouls.

Texas down by one with 7 minutes - but Lindsey picked up here fourth foul - BU hits two free throws - so up by 3.

BU up by four with 3:58 and will have the ball after the media time out. UT missed four free throws in the last three minutes. Sounds like the horns are more tired than the Lady Bears.

Horns turn it over - Looks like Baylor is going to win. I'm proud of my girls. Both teams could have hit more free throws. Grrr.

Man, I'm glad we got our game with UT out of the way early. It sounds like they are really starting to come around.
Congrats Baylor! (See ya Saturday)

Did Baylor win 61-60?

TIZZY! TIZZY! TIZZY!
Nails another 3 pointer from deep in the corner with 19 seconds left to put the Lady Bears up, 61-60.
The 'Horns take it down and attempt to put up a shot, but Wilson blocks it! YES!
Way to go, Lady Bears!
This was a very close game throughout. 'Horns, you showed proud tonight and had a very good game. Too many things are rumbling through my mind just now, but I'm sure the 'Horns won the battle of the boards. Lindsey had a strong game, as did Cortijo.
Whew!
Tizzy rises to the occasion again!

Yes. I don't think I've posted in three years so I'm hoping that means something about where the horns are going to end up in March. Mickie DeMoss is a goddess. Lindsey with 20 points? Who'd have ever thought.

grojc, welcome back to the boards.
Your 'Horns are looking very good. They sure played a strong game tonight.

Good for Texas!
Baylor and KState find a way to win - that's impressive in this league. Sets up a great game between the two.

Kim's Comments
Coach gives Texas credit for an outstanding game. Says they kept Baylor off-balance all night. Played extremely hard and we didn't respond.
At the end of the game when Tizzy was at the foul line, she wanted her to miss the second FT (which T did) so Texas wouldn't have time to get the ball down the court. IIRC, there were only about 2 seconds left in the game. Tizzy handled it perfectly. Coach says she credits a senior for making the critical play at the end of the game.

Coach said as well that sometimes you win a game you didn't deserve to win, and that was the case tonight. Texas played the best defensive game we've seen this year. Double teaming and trapping, jumping the passing lanes, and most of all crashing the boards. Somehow we got the rebounding margin within 5 by the end of the game, but i don't know how. And on the other hand, we didn't seem to have the defensive attitude that we usually do. Maybe the Trib doing an article on the defensive effort thus far this year jinxed us.
Lindsey was great taking advantage of what she was given. She was deadly from about 10 feet. Texas suffered in getting anybody but her and Carla to score, especially in the first half. In the second, they started to drive the lane more often with Carla and Raven, and did a good job getting to the line. If they had done more of that in the first half, it could have been a different result.
Tizzy was the only semblance of a consistent offensive game for us. She didn't shoot alot from outside, but continued her recent trend of penetrating the lane for short jumpers. Of course, once again she pulls it out for us, from the exact same spot where she hit the game-winner against A&M. We're gonna have to name that spot on the floor in her honor after she's gone.
Danielle Wilson wasn't near the force inside as she usually is. She was totally hounded on defense whenever she got an entry pass, and didn't pass out as often as she should have. And on defense, I think Lindsey took her out of her game by playing away from the basket so much. She only had one block, but it was a huge one on Nash in the last few seconds to preserve the win. I've gotta think, however, that Nash shooting from 18 feet wasn't the shot Coach G wanted to end up with in that situation.
I'm very happy to squeak out with a win. If Texas plays defense like that every game they're gonnna be a force in the league. I still think they're a little too short of consistent offensive weapons to have a shot at the top of the league, but if someone steps up, watch out.

I have to agree with Kim's post game comments about Texas mixing up the defense constantly. It really had the Lady Bears out of sync. There was NO movement without the ball. It was kinda strange watching the ball movement with no movement of the players. The passing was WEAK! Jess might as well have handed the ball over to the defender on a few occasions. Again, maybe it was the Texas defense. There was no high low post action going on. However, it was definitely an exciting game. Too bad it was not on TV as indicated. CSTV missed out on some fun.
I'm really impressed with Ashley Lindsay. She has grown by leaps and bounds from last season. Having watched her in a couple of other games on TV, I knew she would be tough against Baylor. I'm sure a lot of credit goes to the new coaching staff. Texas needs Carla on the court at all times. She really drives that team.
Looking at the final stat sheet, you would have expected Texas to have won, but turnovers and second chance points may have been the deciding factors.
Chipper, I sure was rootin' for your Huskers tonight. Sounds like it was an exciting game also. :)
Greg, I think Kim might have had one of her gator rasslin' jackets on tonight. That may have been the difference. :rotflol:

Very tough loss for my Horns. What a great game to watch. The Tisdale 3 pointer was incredible, a real clutch shot. Texas is getting better each week and hopefully our offensive woes will improve.
Ashley Lindsey was phenomenal. It is amazing how the staff has developed her just in the short time they have been there. Coach G is building a foundation and it takes time.
Kudos to Baylor for pulling it out!!!

If you're from Louisiana you don't just wear them, you catch your own. And by the way, GG looked good last night too.
Absolutely amazing the difference between this UT team and the last couple of years.

74Bear - Glad you noticed the amazing difference in this year's version and the past few. It's coaching plain and simple. GG has brought a new style of basketball to Austin and just in time. This team is fun to watch and will only continue to get better.
The development of Ashley Lindsey is a perfect example. This girl has made tremendous strides and has developed into an outstanding player.
GUTSY 3 pointer by Tisdale last night. Your Bears hung in there. What a great game to watch.

Okay, now I've got two to watch out for. This is a new one I haven't seen before. I still prefer the purple one, but I'm not sure that one would've completed last night's ensemble like the one pictured above. This one not only flares at the bottom, but also compliments those suede pants more successfully. Good choice coach.
Now let's talk about those shoes..........:D

I believe those are called "roach killers" in Texas. No corner a safe haven from those boots. OR, maybe they are those boots that Nancy Sinatra sang about.

I like to click on news-sites' "most popular" lists, finding all sorts of stories I might miss otherwise. I do recall this game and article...but why is it #5 on the Washington Post's most e-mailed list today?
Tisdale's 3-pointer, Wilson block lead No. 6 Baylor over No. 25 Texas
No. 6 Baylor 61, No. 25 Texas 60
