The Big 12 has no bigger fan than me. From top to bottom, yes the Big 12 has to be considered on par with the SEC. BUT, I'll be the first to admit that until the Big 12 regularly has teams in the Elite 8 and at least teams in the Final 4 every other year - we can't be considred the top conference. It's all about results. And the results in late March and early April count the most. AND, if we are going to eclipse the SEC, we have to have a Tennessee. Oklahoma is poised to be just that team. OU vs UCONN this Saturday is very, very, very huge.

This isn't just a chance for OU to ready itself for the Big Dance. This isn't just a chance at some more respectability. This isn't just a chance to really show that the Sooners belong in the Top 5. THIS IS a chance to actually be considered on a level with UCONN and Tennessee - at least for this year. UCONN hadn't really arrived until 1995 when they beat the Vols twice in one year to win the national championship. Another team will not join these two on their level until they knock either the Vols or the Huskies off. Then of course remaining there year after year is another step - and to be decided in the coming years.

THIS IS SO HUGE. If OU were to knock off UConn, December 22, 2001 will go down as a red-letter day in the history of this program. It will forever be pointed to and talked about. Not just this season and the next. It will be pointed to 5 years from now, 10 years from now, and after that.

Sure the Big 12 is tough top to bottom. But we can't really be considered the top until we produce our own Tennessee. And that can't happen until one of our own entrenches themself in the Top 5, the Final Four, and regularly goes toe to toe with (and beats) UConn and Tennessee.
