But I think she is starting to feel the physical rigors of WNBA ball.

After scoring at least in double figures for every game, she went a couple of games where she scored little, one of which was a scoreless outing, and took herself out of Washington's last game with a stomach virus.

But the team has responded to her positive leadership - and we shouldn't discount the contribution of the Mystics' new head coach, Marianne Washington, but this team is 9-2, 1/2 game behind LA for the best record in the league.

There's something going on, and it isn't all Holdsclaw or Burgess, or Asjha Jones or Vicky Bullet, or Murriel Page or Coco Miller.

Nopes, I'm certain - it's all Washington. And Dales, of course!

I think the coach is Marianne Stanley unless Kansas is short a coach

Not sure if I agree it is the rigors of the WNBA or just the way a team-player plays. Some games, the game doesn't just "come" to you. Other games it all rains down. With Holdsclaw, Stacey doesn't have to be relied upon so much to shoot and score. Heck, she seldom shoots ten times a game. She also seems to be matched up defensively with the likes of Catchings and Swoopes and defending them well.

Great basketball players make teams and teammates better, many times without things that show up in points per game or other such stats. Stacey has learned to do and be what needs to be done at the appropriate time, to win, or be most successful.

I stand by my earlier predictions.

I think, also, that Holdsclaw is playing with a whole different attitude.....was it hiring Pat Summitt? was it trading Nikki McCray in the offseason?

Holdsclaw has her name on some of the pre-POY award lists. I've never been a huge Holdsclaw fan BECAUSE of Washington's history;
but she is an incredible basketball player. I am constantly amazed at how consistent Holdsclaw is with her shooting.

With the numbers that Tamika Catchings is putting up, I suspect she will get the rookie of the year award. Stacey just had the misfortune of getting hooked up in a year where a high draft pick last year was injured and didn't play, otherwise I would say Stacey would be on track for ROY. Sue Bird has suffered some of the same fates in her season with her numbers.
