Would hate for the conference to lose a top player, but I would sure feel for the Nebraska fans if they have to watch her play for Iowa State.

If Katie would go to Iowa State chances are Nebraska fans wouldn't see her play. What I mean by that is ISU was runner up for Sara Stribe, Nina Smith, Ann O'Neal and they decide they made a mistake and transfered to ISU. Sara is on the volleyball team, Nina decided not to plaay basketball anymore, and Ann tore her ACL and will have to she how she heals.

Nebraska will have as many as 9 scholarships to offer for 2003-04? Connie has some serious work cut out for her. Here's who they've signed so far:

2003-04 Verbal Commitments
Andrea Lightfoot 5'8" Omaha Marian HS, Neb.
Kiera Hardy 5'6" Kansas City O'Hara HS, Mo.
Catherine Anderson 6'3" Millard West HS, Neb.

They have also offered scholarships to:
Katie Montgomery 5'11" Lincoln Pius X HS, Neb.
Jamey Chapman 6'3" Millard West HS, Neb.

Other potential recruits include:
Jenni Flynn 5'9" S. Sioux City HS,Neb.
Elisha Turek 6'1" Council Bluffs AL, IA

I have seen all of these girls play in high school, and I will see many of them July 11-14 at the Miss Basketball Showcase in Kearney.

In my opinion, Chapman is the better of the two 6'3" girls from Millard West, and I hope she signs, as NU is desperately undersized. I was not a fan of Lightfoot earlier this year, but she seems to be improving. She averaged 24 ppg at an AAU tournament in June, and scored 35 and 29 points in two of the tournament games. She is a very streaky scorer, but when she's on, she's pretty tough. I think Flynn and Montgomery can both play. They may not be stars, but they can play.

Elisha Turek is an intriguing player. She is the younger sister of John Turek, a 6'9" sophomore on the NU mens team. She led Iowa's Class 4A in scoring and was 2nd (to UConn's Gillian Goring) in rebounding. I will be interested to see her play this summer and this upcoming high school season.

I have also heard very encouraging things about Kiera Hardy, who has started at O'Hara since she was a freshman.

HuskerFan...I like the possibilities. I hope they all sign and maybe just maybe start righting the ship.

I disagree with your assessment of Flynn. If she continues to develop the way I think she can, she won't be at Nebraska, she'll be at a Tennessee, a Connecticut or a Texas Tech, that's how good she can be.

Keira Hardy is a serious player, too, although she's undersized. I wish she was showing up this year.
This coming season could hurt a lot of prospects for us sitting the fence. The news out of the Lincoln is that Janice Bright will not be showing up this year and will ask to let out of her scholarship. That is another blow to what already will be a very difficult year.

Help is on the way, but its a year away.

Why would you even want her back after her DUI? She's not legally old enough to drink anyways and then she put others at risk for getting behind the wheel after drinking. A stupid decision where luckily nobody got hurt.

I agree with Coach Yori. Get rid of any and all players who either don't want to be at Neb or got into trouble.

She's looking for a fresh start and I think as a fan you should have confidence in her. But of course you don't so I guess you're not a fan. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Between distilled spirits chemistry and team chemistry I think chemistry dictates that she not come back. When she left the team it had to put a wedge between her and her team mates. ("those who STAY will be champions") If Coach Yori took her back it would possibly send a message to the other players that even after showing "disloyalty" to them and her DUI that she is a crucial player that has to be taken back to save the program and the rest of the team are lesser players that need to be rescued. I hope she gets a complete fresh start somwhere else and puts her problems behind her. I think its better that way for her and for Nebraska basketball.

I have a stupid question, Huskerfan. Of the two 6'3 girls from Millard West, does one have straight blonde hair and the other curly and brunette? I only ask because I go to the 24hour Fitness Gym in Millard and I always see two really tall girls that look to be high school age carrying basketballs around.

OK, another 2 cents to chip in. Katie Montgomery is the sister of starting Iowa State Offensive Lineman Bob Montgomery. Not sure how this would play into her decision. I think Fennelly is recruiting her, but I really don't know how hard.

I also know ISU is recruiting Flynn as well...

"Of the two 6'3 girls from Millard West, does one have straight blonde hair and the other curly and brunette?"

Yeah, that's gotta be them Cloneman. The blonde is Catherine Andersen and the brunette is Jamie Chapman.

I saw Millard West play against Lincoln Southeast this year in districts, and while I was impressed with Chapman and Andersen's mobility and good hands, the team lacked guards to get them the ball. Playing against Southeast, a team that is famous for its pressure defense, without guards is not good. West may be pretty decent this year though as they only lost a couple bench warmers from last season. One thing's for sure, they will have lots of size, as they start 6'3" Andersen, 6'3" Chapman, and 6'2" Leslie Ross in their front court.

That's a HUGE lineup for a high school team. When I was in high school, we had a girl named Jenny Noll who was 6'4 and later played for the University of Iowa. She absolutely dominated everybody at the high school level. I can't imagine having three girls in the same height range.

Question for Huskers or anyone else who may know, how is Katie Montgomery recovering from her ACL surgery? After reading about the recovery program at ISU, I imagine it is unlikely she has those resources. Maybe when there is a commit the college could assist. Also, assuming a full recovery, does she have the potential to contribute to a top twenty team?

A poster on the NU board indicated doubts that Janice Bright would show up. Any indication this is more than wild seculation?
