I think we've worn out the OU/Illinois thread, so I'm starting a new one........tickets to this game can still be had anywhere from $175 down to $55.....that's a scary thought that I purchased 2 season tickets @ OU in a cushy seat right near center court for $100. One game ticket in about the same place would cost 3 times as much as an OU season ticket........

Supply and Demand. At least all the games are televised.

I saw at the boneyard that the game would be televised in Israel. That's kinda cool.

Looking forward to planting myself on the couch at my parent's house on Saturday and hogging the TV for a couple of hours...if my 4 year old nephew will let me!!

As for the game, well I understand why Uconn is the favorite. I know OU can play with them though and will definitely make a game of it. It'll take an A+ game, but I believe!!!

The men's team had two players from Israel, Sheffer & Henefeld. Both graduated. I think one if not both are still playing Israeli pro ball.

There is also a female player UConn is reported to be interested in. She's from Israel, but is now a high school junior on Long Island, NY. I think her name is Shay Doron.

There's an interesting article in the Oklahoman paper today about Doug Gottlieb (OSU) playing in Israel:

Not sure how these articles work with their pay-for archive site, but it is available today.

$100?????????? Are they out of their minds??? Is that just for the OU/UCONN game? That is horrible. If money starts influencing women's college basketball as much as it does other sports, then I am affraid that things could turn bad...because after all money is the root of evil http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I took a quick scan of the boneyard, didn't see the reference to televising in Israel. I don't think it's done all the time, but ...

The pro leagues in Israel are supposed to be pretty good and very popular. Heard the two UConn men players made a bunch of dough. Not NBA money, but in six figures. Probably the same for the OSU guy, Gottlieb, too.

UConn ticket prices are based supply and demand. Connecticut sports fans do not have a decent college football team like all of you Big XII'er, and all the pro teams are either in NY or MA.

The prices are drastically reduced for the Student Body, but they are limited. Gampel is the bb arena on campus, holds only 10m. Hartford Civic Center (where the OU/UConn game is) holds 16m. More student seats are available at Gampel, but season ticket holders get the best seats from either arena.

The crowd is mostly families and older folk. That's why at times you see the boneyarders complain about the lack crowd noise/cheering. But all us common fans still have the games on TV, thank goodness for that

Basketball is Israel is HUGE, and Doron Sheffer and Nadav Henefeld are playing for the IBL's flagship team, Elite Maccabi Tel Aviv. I think two years ago they won the EuroLeague competition. They've dominated the Israeli League for 3 decades.

$100??? I didn't know those tickets where going that cheap.
I've seen UConn fans plunk down more for the Husky/Lady Vol clashes (I'll cop to plunking down that much.) Living in Connecticut, its amazing seeing the type of loyalty and fanaticism people here have for womens basketball. Every game televised (Thank you, CPTV. Many Big 12 universities need to do the same thing with their state PBS affiliates.), the stands always filled, etc. That 100 ticket is no accident. Adam Smith is working here, folks, and if the game gets bigger, it'll only get bigger.

Kinda back to basketball. Many fans, particularly on the summitt complain that UConn plays a lot of home games. UConn does. Each game is big money.

Tech has new TV this year for stations who want to buy the packages. If they buy a package it is for both men and women's games. Almost every home game is televised at the United Spirit Arena. It is called the TTU Network.

Saw a couple of you Hoopscoopers on the boneyard. If you go there again don't miss a couple of recent OU/UConn posts:

1. Sherri Coale: Superwoman from OldCoach
2. My Sherri Coale Story from Wonkster and Nuzzi

The bottom line on the boneyard is that most think UConn will win, but virtually everyone respects OU. There's a lot of crap there that probably won't interest you.

DblT81 said in a different thread that I seem to be a "reasonable guy", thanks. There are lots of "reasonable" UConn fans. And there are lots of "Arrogant UConn fans" as I think Jennifer pointed out a week or so ago when commenting about the boneyard. Unfortunately, arrogant posts sometime are remembered longer. The boneyard gets over 500 posts a day. We'll get the stupid/arrogant posts on any topic, it's just the law of averages, but I think that the vast majority of the UConn fans are 1) are "reasonable and not arrogant" 2) realize how lucky we are to have our team and all the hoopla that surrounds the program.

ps: but when discussing TN, the % of "reasonable and not arrogant" does goes down, but not as much as you may think ... got to be real.

great article about the game......
http://www.wnba.com/features/scoop_ok_uconn.html

And I do agree that Oklahoma will bring a lot of things back with them when they return to Norman, win or lose.....the experience gained by playing a team of this stature this early is immeasureable.

Articles pertaining to the game:

Has OU used a "triangle" and two defense in any recent games? Seems like the best option v. UConn. Dales on Taurasi, Ross/Jackson on Bird, then Hill/Talbert/Caufield/Ross & other big girls in the triangle.

Haven't seen your team enough. Does this make sense?

I'm the last person to ask about defenses http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
I heard the lady on ESPN last Sunday say something about a point and something.........kind of defense.

OU does have the Sooner Sports Network...the last 2 years? They are televising 4 games this year, the good news is that they are televising both Iowa State and Kansas State..both away games...and they always carry the two OU/OSU games. Surprised that the OU/Texas Tech game in Lubbock is not on TV...ESPN, in the past has always picked that one up....guess they figure 3 times on ESPN is enough for OU......I also noticed last year that our local Cox Channel 3, which is typically a "information" channel that shows Tulsa basketball, high school sports and instructions on how to use digital cable........was televising the 1st and 2nd round games of the Big 12 Tournament.....
yep, I fired off an email thanking them!....sure hope they continue.

Hey Bark, yeah that was me. But I also said I realized from the AOL boards how many gracious, reasonable UConn fans there were. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif My first take on the posts pertaining to the OU game at the Boneyard were that a lot of the posters are arrogant. I have no problem with them thinking UConn will win, but they were giving OU absolutely no credit whatsoever (they beat Ill. so easily because Ill. is such a bad team, etc etc), as well as saying OU has no chance at all. That's what people said about OU football in 2000 before they faced 'giants' Texas, KSU, and Nebraska. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
So, while I realize UConn should and probably will win, I know OU has the tools and is capable of putting together that perfect game and winning.

And thanks Bark, for coming on over and sharing your views!

Swok, That's how it starts. Young, good, energentic coaches, media coverage, steady and lucky recruiting (luck for UConn reads: Lobo, Wolters & Abrosimova)...then with some luck and lots of persistence, winning consistently and on top of the heap.

Not only Sherri, but Kim, and I bet several more in the Big XII. Sorry, I don't know all well enough.

Jennifer, some of the posting on the boneyard is really wacko...but mostly when TN fans start something or certain fans criticize a reserve guard. The UConn and TN fans are really fixated on each other and that's when posts gets arrogant/wacko. Notice that if a UConn fan defends something on the summitt, it's attack and counter-attack city! e.g. Commies, greaser, coward, etc. (further discussion on this is probably best on a different thread and board). So you are right.

Back to the game. I remain an ardent UConn fan, and I am also in agreement with the majority of the UConn fans and much of the media that UConn should win by 10-18 points. BUT I don't thing OU needs to play a perfect game to win. Defend the post, run uptempo, get 90+ points, put Taurasi in the tank, and you win. Personnaly, if we have to lose a game this year, to OU would be the best (providing that we beat TN, 1/5).

Geno sometimes does things that could cost him the game. He's done it before in similar situations (Geno doesn't like to be undefeated going into the NCAA's, have the team think they're invincable, ...). The situation is ripe for this game. Everyone in CT likes OU, the team is undefeated, the Big East game are just getting started, the conference is weak, TN game is comming up.

So who knows? I'm hoping its a good/exciting/close game. UConn winning or losing. This way everybody wins.

ditto. OU winning or losing.

OU has their game notes up, really informative with stats from the last two times OU/UConn met.....

Whaley was bigger in those games than I remember.....and in the regional semi, she was 4 of 5 from 3 point land....

As much as I would LOVE to see OU beat UCONN, I think it will be very close with the edge to UCONN by only seven(7). And thats only because of the inside game of Cash and Co.

I have to give the coaching edge to SC.

Good Luck OU.

Getting ready to head to D-FW to fly up for the game. Goal from my point is for http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ou.gif to get off to a good start. I just have a sneaky feeling Taurazi will not have a great game. Fear Sue Bird's ability to do whatever it takes though.

Regardless, if http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ou.gif stays close or a bit ahead with 6 minutes to go----Ross will nail the threes to put the Sooners over the top. The game will come to Caulfield, Dales will do her thing and Caton will be mean and nasty---just no more than 1 foul until late in the first half.

Boomer Sooners!!!!!!!!!!!
