Well, I guess that answers the question as to conference transfers in the Big 12--she doesn't have to sit out an extra year for staying in conference.

Yeah that surprised me Jennifer. I know that some of the BU men's transfers from other conferences (New Mexico) had to sit out a year. Same with football. I thought you lost a full year of eligibility if transferring within the conference, to discourage such practices. Evidently, I thought wrong.

Can some Tech fans give me the scoop on Brown? I'm familiar with the name, and outside of the stats listed in the article above, I don't know hardly anything about her.

Hi Bear!
Actually--there was some discussion earlier as to within-conference transfers. Apparently, some conferences have a rule that you have to sit out 2 Years! if you transfer w/i the conference.
I think she left the team in December, thus her year 'out' began w/ the spring semester. But then I always thought you had to spend your year out attending the school you are tranferring to?
I dunno, it's all to confusing and cumbersome for me to keep up with.

According to a story in the Lubbock paper:
Under NCAA rules, Brown is termed as a "4-2-4" transfer, meaning she transferred from a four-year to a two-year school and back to a four-year university.
If a player transfers from one four-year school to another, she would be required to sit out one season and forfeit a year of eligibility. However, Brown attended Austin Community College in the spring, allowing her to transfer to Baylor without losing any eligibility.
According to the NCAA rule, a "4-2-4" transfer becomes immediately eligible when one calendar year has elapsed since the time she departed the original four-year school.

What a crappy rule! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif
After her injury, I never thought that Dionne was able to get it together, but if she felt it necessary for herself to leave because Cisti and Jolee were getting to play in front of her, then so be it. I thought that her and Pierson would have been able to be a great combo. {sigh}
Miss Brown will team up VERY nicely with Stephanie Blackmon. That duo will give Baylor a very strong and athletic front line!
