for a new D1 women's coach. I know the successful coaches are now making pretty good money. Coale at over 400,000. If I remember correctly, she was hired in at around 80 grand six years ago. Not bad for a high school coach at time. I know Sharp is making real big bucks. I know Vandy offered Coale big money when they were looking. OSU, from what I understand gave Goodenough 170,000. Maybe she will turn out to be a superstar but I think they could have found someone a little more high profile than what they did but I still have to remember Coale and her credentials and she turned out ok.

From everything I've seen, it seems to be anywhere from $250,000 to $400,000 (as evidenced in the Nebraska job). I believe Kim Mulkey-Robertson's start was $250,000 2 years ago.
Also, think that had Goodenough been D1, she probably would have commanded more than what she got. This was probably a very wise move for OSU to bring in a coach they could "afford". Geno and Pat are both dancing around the $500,000 figure, I believe.
ISU fans, what does Bill Fennelly make now? I recall he got a pretty hefty raise after delivering to the Elite 8, but haven't read much since.
In OU's case, I was really glad to see the assistants get raises, as they seem to be the low totem pole folks. I think DeMoss makes around $250,000, but she would have to be an exception in her position and she's been there a long, long time.

Fennelly originally had a 5-digit contract, IIRC. He's had a few raises over the years, including one after this season. He made $250,000 this past season, and now he is up to $315,000.

How much a coach is guaranteed under a contract is different from their base salary and is different from what they actually earn in total due to shoe contracts, camps, speaking engagements, etc. It is difficult to compare unless you know all the components and very few of those details are published.
It was reported in the Lubbock newspaper that Marsha Sharp's contract calls for her base salary to mirror that of the men's coach. So her deal was redone when Bob Knight was hired. Sharp's contract runs through 2006.
The article said Sharp is guaranteed $600k on her annual contract. $250k base salary, $150k deferred income "package" (whatever "package" means) to be paid at the END of the contract, and Tech guarantees at least $200k from others.
Tech does not pay any of the $200k of outside income unless Sharp does not earn at least that much. It is rumored that Sharp earns substantially more outside income than the $200k that Tech guarantees. The deferred income package could be an annuity contract or retirement plan contribution or something else that does not equal cash in the pocket. Or it could represent a cash amount required to buy out the contract if the coach is terminated. Such contract features make comparisons difficult unless all coaches have the same features and they are added together for that total compensation figure that is mentioned in public.
