According to the Ames Tribune, soph-to-be Ada Anderson is giving up basketball for track. She was a top high school track athlete and was easily the fastest player on the team, but she saw little action and, as a point guard she probably doesn't anticipate that changing with two more years behind Junod and Megan McCracken coming in this fall. Also, she apparently had a great outdoor track season, so joining indoor track as well sounds like a good decision.

However, the article is not clear: there are two contradictory statements. (Lee is the track coach)

"Iowa State women's basketball player Ada Anderson has decided to give up basketball and concentrate on track, Lee said Friday."

"It was not clear whether she will count towards a basketball or track scholarship next season. Lee indicated Anderson may remain with the basketball team in some capacity."

Neither Anderson nor Fennelly could be reached for comment, so they may be able to clear everything up.

Here is the article:

If Anderson is not on the tea next season, ISU will only have 10 scholarship athletes:

Seniors:
Lindsey Wilson
Mary Cofield
Holly Bordewyk
Juniors:
Erica Junod
Sophomores:
Anne O'Neil
Tracy Paustian
Mary Fox
Lisa Kriener
Freshmen:
Megan McCracken
Brittany Wilkins

That means ISU has 8 scholarships to give the 2003 class. Two players have verballed so far: Jane Horkey and Megan Ronhovde.

Although Ada didn't play all that much, I did enjoy her enthusiasm and hustle when she did get in the game. Best wishes to her in her future endeavors.

From the Ames Tribune:
-------------------
Fennelly said he wasn't surprised by Ada Anderson's decision to pursue track fulltime and leave the basketball team. He said they discussed it and he thought she might spend one more year in basketball but apparently Anderson wanted to make the move sooner.

"It was something that we all along gave our blessing to," Fennelly said. "I should get a finder's fee."

The Cyclones will only have 10 players for practice purposes next season including freshman Megan McCracken and the rehabilitating Anne O'Neil.

Anderson's scholarship will come out of the track team's allotment now that she has left basketball. When she was on both teams she had to be counted against the basketball limit.
