If any of you Tech fans might have been curious about what it was like to listen to the last 5 minutes of the ISU/Northwestern game on the radio, you just experienced it with the St. Peters game.

Tech was paced tonight by solid play of Jia Perkins with 32 points and Cisti Greenwalt, 14 pts and 18 rebounds. She stepped it up big-time and started the second half. Despite pretty cool shooting from everyone outside but Jia, they played smart and pullled it out. 18 of 31 ft's just won't cut it in the Big XII kids! St. Peter's was something like 25 of 29 ft's, outstanding!

JP was 12-14 though FT...

Overall, it was a good quality win for Texas Tech because SPC was 7-1 and had an RPI of 64. They are a very good defensive team so I am happy that we even scored 75 points. Still need to work on FTs. I am so glad that Cisti is learning every game. 18 rebounds! That is great for her and a new career high (old was 16 rebounds). Double Double for her. Jia Perkins, as said on the radio by Ryan Hyatt said, should have been FOY last year. She is just so versatile and can hit inside or out driving to the lane or shooting a three once in a while like we saw in the TTU/ISU game last year in Lubbock. Great game for the Lady Raiders!

Whoa there pard. The FOY was well and truly EARNED by Nicole Ohlde. I won't go through all the supporting arguments for that but Nicole carried KSU and she, like Jia, is a very multi-talented exceptional player that almost never has a bad game. Her "bad" games last year were games that most folks would be very proud of.

OK OK, I'll pull my elbows back in now! Nicole is a special kid as well as a special player.

Cisti also had 5 blocks! Along with Jia's 32 pts, she also had 8 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals while Amber contributed 12 points and 6 boards in the victory. Nat and Dionne did not contribute much at all in this game..played a combined 11 minutes. Not sure what happened there...sounded like a combination of cold-shooting and early fouls. Doesn't look like they got a second chance after coming out cold. Jia and Cisti obviously picked up the slack.

impressive:Cisti's past four game avg (since PP's departure)

pts: 9.75
rebs: 12.75
blocks: 4.5

I agree Cisti's Stats are impressive. So is a road win on an "off" night against a decent team. In order to have a good season sometimes you have to grit it out and win ugly.

Well, it can be argued either way who should have recieved the FOY award. Of course I think Jia deserved it, but I'm partial. It's strange though that the MVP of a team who went 25-7 was not good enough to receive FOY honors. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif just a thought.

I just think Jia was the most well-rounded, complete player. It's kind of hard to compare a guard to a post player, but here it is:

Jia: 32 games, avg 27.9 mins a game
Nic: 27 games, avg 30.6 mins a game

Jia: 46% fg (158-345), 36% 3ptfg (24-66), 81% ft (95-118)
Nic: 50% fg (191-381), 0% 3ptfg (0-2), 67% ft (82-122)

Points:
Jia: 13.6
Nic: 17.2

rebounds:
Jia: 4.1
Nic: 8.1

assists:
Jia: 3.8
Nic: 1.7

steals:
Jia: 2.8
Nic: 1.5

blocks:
Jia: 0.5
Nic: 0.6

Turnovers:
Jia: 2.6
Nic: 3.2

I think had Jia averaged more points she would have received the honor, however...I think more people are concerned with points/rebounds than the total package. Jia just does everything and it shows on the floor when she plays. A lot of which does not show up in the stats. Sorry for the long post...I've just always been a huge Jia fan, so I had to speak up. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif It's just my opinion...I do think Nicole is a great player and like I said, it can be argued either way. I just would have liked for Jia to have received the honor http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I appreciate your point of view. Maybe if the Big XII could cop out with a double player of the week award last week they could have just taken two FOY. They are both a credit to the themselves and the game. Nicole also was used to bring the ball down the floor to break the press. She even was assigned to guard hot shooting guards or wings on occasion. She also was used on full court presses to challenge other team's ball handlers. She is not your typical post player. Like you have said, not all of any players worth shows up in the stats.

I think you are right about voters focusing on points though. Now as to this years FOY I would like to hog it again. Laurie Koehn and Kendra Wecker are both good candidates. There is a lot of ball to be played first however. Maybe Robinette or someone else will emerge.
