Good grief, I guess it's official! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/confused.gif

Junior forward will remain part of the Lady Raider program.

Dec. 18, 2001

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head women's basketball coach Marsha Sharp announced today that junior forward Plenette Pierson will sit out the remainder of the 2001-02 season. Pierson will remain on scholarship and is still part of the Lady Raider program. Pierson was indefinitely suspended following Tech's game at New Mexico Nov. 30.

"This decision was made after heartfelt deliberation," said Sharp. "This was a very difficult decision but after discussion with our staff, players and administration, I believe this will be the best thing for the this year's team, the Lady Raider program and certainly for Plenette."

Sharp has always made it a policy not to discuss personnel decisions and will not comment on this issue any further.

I am going to miss watching Pierson play. Even though the Lady Raiders are doing well without her. They need her! She is so talented and I will always wonder what would have been, if she was playing with the team. Most Big 12 teams should be breathing a sigh of releif.

What could she have done that would warrant such a long suspension? Coach Sharp is one of the greats and you have to respect her decisions, but I am confused. Could it be personal problems or disciplinary problems? Does anybody know for sure?

Honestly, I think the less said on this subject, the better. Marsha Sharp is not going to give any more specific information (which I believe is completely correct) so anything said on these boards can only be gossip.

I join with those who only wish the best to both Plenette Pierson and the Lady Raider basketball program.

Thanks CarolAnn. That is another reason I like wcbb. The fans are smart and good people.

It's a shame this has to happen regardless of the circumstances. As a fan, I hope the team can regroup and persevere as a team for the rest of the season. Clearly, the loss of Pierson takes away from this teams depth and experience, however, I commend Coach Sharp for making this tough decision and not compromising the standards of the Lady Raider program in order to win games.
