I guess it's about time to start our "whip around" coverage of teams and games of interest. This is for games or items outside the Big 12 that don't necessarily merit a thread of their own. We've done this in the past on a day to day basis, but I thought I'd try a three day thread to see how it worked. Feel free to add anything of interest to you that might be of general interest to the group.

I'll start with a few results.

UCLA 69 Stanford 56 More than a bit of a shock. I don't think many saw this one coming.

Drake 72 Missouri State 42 How the mighty have fallen. The situation at SMS (Sorry, can't help myself) is a sorry one that needs further exploration, just not tonight. The score was 37-17 at the half.

Creighton 83 Wichita State 47 Chipper's "other team" also had a big first half, leading 45-20 at that point.

Washington 61 Washington State 46 As expected, Washington spoiled June Daugherty's first matchup against her old team, but the Cougars did manage to keep it close for the first half, trailing only 28-26. See Bball Girl's thread on June and her miraculous lifesaving situation last year.

Here are a few to look out for in Saturday's games.
Arizona completes their swing through Oregon at Oregon. Oregon should be favored to win this one, but . . .
An affair of State, Penn State at Michigan State, that is.
Tennessee at Notre Dame Looks like the Irish are back after a few years on the down side.

THANKS - of course, I have to admit, seeing Stanford on the loss side is always a nice surprise.

Wiggins had 29 pts and "sprained her jaw in the first half, but said she was fine after the game" (how does one sprain their jaw playing basketball??)

"We're fed up with playing with the best and not being able to finish the job," Pluimer said. "We learned from those games. You could tell by how we used the clock and were patient. All those came from the Maryland and Tennessee games."

The Bruins (7-7, 2-1 Pac-10) led virtually the entire game against a Cardinal team that had been blowing out opponents by an average of 20.2 points.

"Our team is fearless," UCLA coach Kathy Olivier said.

After no women's basketball for weeks...

Dale, what's going on with SMS (I'll side with you:) )? Are the players having a tough time adjusting to the new coaching/scheme? Have there been injuries? Other chemistry issues?

I too am surprised that their season has gotten off to a slow start, given Nyla's recent track record.

I, also, am interested in hearing Dale's review of the SMS/MSU situation. By the way, their former head coach -- and former Bill Fennelly assistant-- Katie Abrahamson-Henderson is now an assistant at Washington, working for her former Iowa teammate (and new head coach) Tia Jackson.

Anyone watching the Tenn @ ND game on CBS?

ND doesn't have the athletes to stay with Tenn. However, I'm still amazed at how much the refs are letting them play. ND is getting hammered everytime they take the ball into the paint and no calls. I might be having my anti-orange glasses on........

Well, I am just in hog heaven. I decided to go to DirectTV so I could get their great sports package. I was able to watch ALL of those games listed. I also saw the Ohio State game, Houston/Tulane, and Cleveland State/ someone.

However, with all those channels at my disposal, I missed the game on network tv: UConn at Purdue DOH!

Giraffe Spots, you didn't really miss much. I watched the first 7 minutes then switched to another game, started out checking in on the game a few times then just forgot about it. I have Suddenlink's sport package and got to see all the games. They recently added ESPNU so I'm a really happy person:p. On Saturday and Sunday from about 11:30 a.m. (CST) until about 6:30 p.m., I did nothing but watch WBB. It was simply a marvelous weekend.

TTU79, then you and I did the exact same thing this weekend. I even got to see the Sooner men play on one of the FSN stations that was airing the Sooner Sports Network. That bodes well for me. I am HOPING against hope that they air the women's games through the SSN also.

The only problem, when I started watching the Kansas/Xavier game, I was not looking at the tv. Then I heard the voice that sends me screaming into the night. The commentators were Ann Schatz and Brenda Vanlenglen. (Ann is the one who sends me screaming). I just would almost rather watch a game with no sound that have to hear Ann Schatz. Thank the LORD, Brenda was there also. If she hadn't been there, I WOULD have watched with no sound. Brenda is great.

I know, Ann does a lot of commentating, but I just have a hard time listening to her ever since I first heard her doing the Portland Fire games for the WNBA. I would rather listen to SWMNBN than Ann (and I DID have to listen to SWMNBN this weekend also.)
