At this hour, two news organisations in Nebraska are reporting that Katie Robinette will not be a part of the Husker program in womens basketball next year. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif
There is been no other word on future plans at this time however sources I've talked to today said, it was another version of the Stephanie Jones issue. Player-Coach friction seems to be the force behind it.
I wonder if Nebraska will release her from her scholarship. Coaches can't contact her until that happens.
I reeeeeeaaallly hope she considers ISU. She is extremely talented and I think she would thrive in a program like ISU. I was told that transfer rules would require her to lose a season of eligibility or pay her own way if she transferred within the conference, however.

Lincoln Journal Star artice about Sanderford and the recent defections: http://www.journalstar.com/sports.php?story_id=7638
The article goes on to say that Robinette's former high school coach has been contacted by Fennelly at Iowa State, Joe Curl at Houston, South Dakota, Wayne State, and a host of junior colleges. The article says that if Robinette transferred to a Big 12 school she wuld have to sit out next season at the Division I level and lose a year of eligibility.

I'm fairly certain I understand the rules now, but I'm not sure.
Transfer within the Big 12 with scholarship: sit out a year and lose a year of eligibility
Transfer within the Big 12 and walk on: sit out a year and retain all remaining eligibility
People have referred to sitting out two years. This may be the case in some situations but I don't know which.
mred, I believe the rules are thus:
Abandon your scholarship and transfer to another conference school, lose 2 years of eligibility.
Abandon your scholarship and transfer to another NCAA school, lose 1 year of eligibility.
Abandon your scholarship and transfer to a non-NCAA school, retain your remaining eligibility.
Be released from your scholarship and transfer to a conference school, lose 1 year of eligibility.
Be released from your scholarship and transfer to any school not in your conference, retain all eligibility.
----
I'm sure someone will correct my errors here, but I think I am at least close.

I don't know about cases where a player isn't released, so I won't address those. I believe the above statements are true if a player accepts a scholarship to the new school. However, people on the ISU board seem to think that you can transfer within the Big XII and retain all eligibility if you walk-on and pay your own way.
The reason there's so much confusion is that there is no NCAA rule governing this. This is strictly a conference rule, and since the Big XII rules aren't widely available (at least not on the website--big shock) we have to figure out the rules based on prior cases. One example is Luke Axtell, who transferred from Texas to Kansas. He lost a season of eligibility. Any others that anyone can think of?

I just heard from a person with ties to the Nebraska program that Coach Sanderford will resign today. The ties are not REAL close so I don't think its for sure.

Katie leaving Nebraska is the final straw, I've decided not to renew my season tickets for this upcoming season. Robinette has limitless potential, and when she played hard, she was fun to watch. Unfortunately she only played to her potential in 5 or 6 games last season, and it became clear that she was not committed to the team or the program. I wish Katie the best, but she has a lot of work to do if she ever wants to become the player that everyone expected her to be. Robinette was the most highly touted player to ever come out of Nebraska, and to lose her is another major blow to the program. She came into Lincoln looking like the program's savior, but ended up just another disappointment. ISU can have her, and maybe she will flourish under a better coach and a thriving program, but cyclone fans might have to prepare for an encore performance of "The Melanie Bremer Story", because Katie obviously has some issues.
