View Full Version : The inevitable "Where will Robinette go?" thread...

Anyone want to throw out wild speculation? It's fun! Let me start....

Katie's bio states that the chose Nebraska over UConn, Notre Dame, Georgia, and ISU. I assume that means that those five schools are where she took official visits. Due to recent success and proximity to home, you have to think Creighton is also an option.

Any other possibilities people want to grab out of thin air?

I doubt she'd go to UConn. They have a lot of young talent, although that doesn't seem to deter a lot of top recruits. She might want to go somewhere where she isn't under the spotlight so much, which would take her away from the midwest. Then again, she may want to stay close to home, so who knows.

Now for my essay:
Why Katie Robinette would be a good fit for ISU and vice versa(Chipper, feel free to tell me when I say something incorrect and/or stupid)

Robinette has a lot of talent all over the court. She should not be confined to playing offense under the basket. With her height, most teams would put her at the 4, and Iowa State is no exception. However, ISU rarely plays a 2-post offense; the 4 is expected to shoot from the perimeter as well as play an inside game (from behind the arc, Melanie Bremer hit 16-41 (39%) last season, Desiree Francis hit 59-161 (37%) in her two-year career, and Monica Huelman hit 23-72 (32%) in her last two seasons). It is of my opinion that Robinette would fit into this very well (although I admittedly only saw her play a couple of times last season; I may have to pull out my ISU-NU tapes and take another look).
The End

Nothing stupid or incorrect said there. I think she left Nebraska for exactly that reason. Katie Robinette is NOT a power forward yet Paul Sanderford insisted on making her one. Katie is really a 2-3 swingman.

My list of likely landing spots.

1. Houston-- The coach is from her hometown and is good friends with the HS coach at South Sioux City, plus one of Katie's best friends plays there and they run a offense similar to the systems Katie ran in HS.

2. Iowa State -- Fennelly really wanted Robinette and mred's contentions are rather valid. The only thing is would Fennelly insist on making Robinette an inside-first player? That is the mistake Nebraska made.

3. North Dakota State or North Dakota -- Winning teams, solid program, close to home, but far enough away.

Why not Creighton? The Bluejays lack of size would force Robinette to become a 4 or even a 5, that is a reconfiguration from which no one would profit, although her skills would be an asset

One other thing to consider, her DUI conviction. Granted she got a fine and probation...That will scare a lot of teams off, She has potential, but the difficultiesat Nebraska have tainted her a little. She will most likely drop down from the power conference into the next tier.

Based on the information in the above two posts, I would not be surprised to see her at Houston, although for her sake I hope not. I don't like Houston (the school) very much. Kind of an icky place as far as I'm concerned.

I disagree with Chipper, though, in that I do not see how she could possibly play the 2 position (too slow). I think her natural position in college is the 4 (with a slight possibility at the 3 depending on matchups with the opposition).

Just my thoughts.

Isn't there some kind of rule that if you transfer to another school in the same conference you have to sit out two years?

Soonerman, I think that rule applies in some conferences, but not the Big 12. I think anyway.

Perhaps a JUCO in the fall? That gives Robinette a year to show that she can go to school and stay out of trouble. If she can complete her AA degree, I believe she can go to D1 again after only one year. The Purdue player who got into legal trouble went to JUCO and will now play at Rutgers. Right now, Robinette is a 'high risk' player.

Someone on the cycloneillustrated.com board said they thought you either had to lose a year of eligibility or pay your own way.

no. it applies to the Big 12 as far as I know. she would lose two seasons if she went to ISU. I doubt she would want anything to do with the Big 12 anyways. She probably wants to get as far away from that as possible...at least I would if I were her.

I just hope she doesn't lose the love of playing. She didn't seem to enjoy basketball last year at all, and the game is something Katie truly loves very much http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif.

Again, it is just sad the way its all come undone.
