As much of a tear that Lindsey Wilson is on, you sure don't hear much about her. Frese, for some reason always seemed to get more hype in her hey-day. At least Wilson was awarded a Co-Big 12 POW this past week.
So, for you http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/isu.gif fans -- how do you compare Wilson and Frese? Personally, after watching Wilson in her freshman year, I went ahead and stated that there wouldn't be a big dropoff once Frese left. Wilson seemed to more effectively drive the lane and create some things. Now it seems Wilson has turned into even more of a *consistent* scoring machine than Frese was. Anyway, interested to hear comparisons by fans that actually get to see her play in person.
Against Mississippi State, Lindsey scored 16 points. That's the only time this season she's scored under 20 in a game.
Stacy Frese was the first truly great player Iowa State ever had. She could hit threes from anywhere in the building, she took care of the ball, she hit free throws with incredible accuracy, and she was able to drive on players who played her too tightly.
Lindsey Wilson just may be better.
Lindsey is stronger and quicker than Stacy. This allows her to be a better player on defense, which is where Stacy didn't excel. Lindsey hits over 70% of her free throws and 40% of her three-pointers, which is comparable to Stacy. Lindsey has always been able to drive better than Stacy. When Stacy had the ball with the shotclock winding down, she could do two things: shoot the long three or drive and get a layup or a foul. Lindsey adds a third that makes her great: she can stop on a dime and hit the pullup jumper like no one but Megan Taylor has been able to do for the Cyclones. She hit this shot over and over against Iowa, since this triple threat makes her hard to guard.
When I first saw Lindsey this season, I couldn't believe how much she's improved. She's added some nice spin moves on the drive and hits the midrange jumper better than ever. I'm thrilled that she's been consistent so far this season, and I think she has a shot at first-team all-big XII. Heck, if she keeps this up, she's a serious darkhorse candidate for conference POY.
There's a great thread about Wilson on the Cyclone Illustrated message board:

Hey, I agree with all the above. Wilson has stepped her game a couple notches, to say the least. And as much as I like Stacy Frese, I truly think Wilson has developed into an overall more consistent player than Frese. Ironically, it has been reported that there was a little animosity between the two of them. Guess that might make a little sense.
