View Full Version : Katie Robinette transferring?
There is apparently a poster on the huskers illustrated message board saying that this is true. I can't see that thread (subscribers only) but I can see a reference to it on another huskers illustrated board (open to all).

Anyone else hear anything of the sort? This could be just somebody shooting their mouth off, but it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

For Nebraska's sake, I hope this isn't true. If it is, then given the earlier defections, maybe something's not quite right in Lincoln.

I was wrong about one thing: the original post is on a public board. I linked to it below...

According to Cloned, the single most reliable poster at Cyclone Illustrated, Robinette has indeed told Nebraska she wants to leave.

Lush Robinette isn't going anywhere! http://www.journalstar.com/sports?story_id=4278&past=
I'm not convinced she isn't leaving, but I'll assume she isn't unless I hear otherwise.
I thought Chipper might lose both Charos in one summer... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Talking to some folks this morning close to the kid and the situation..She's not leaving, but it doesn't look good, either http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif
First, the rumor. It was someone "shooting their keyboard off" however Katie has said she is frustrated with her role on the team and the lack of cohesion on it.
But Katie tranferring is hampered by her current legal situation. There is the matter of her DUI and how that will be handled (as of this time, it has not gone to the courts or to the university's diciplinary machinery. It is still pending to the best of my knowledge.)
As for "Charos", well the original Charo Jones probably will not play again. Some in her family seem to think she is leaning toward just finishing school is just isn't feeling basketball anymore. A decision similar to Nina Smith at Iowa State, which is not a bad thing. If the heart and desire isn't there, it would be best to withdraw. Given the disappointing results Stephanie Jones has had, it would not be surprising if she decides to shut it down.
It is interesting that Iowa State would be a probable place for her to land. It wouldn't be a bad place at all, but my question is does Bill Fennelly want to deal with the baggage Katie brings to the table. He's already dealt with an undiscipline Melanie Bremer, an uncommitted Nina Smith, and an unpredictable Anne O'Neil. Two of them have left the program. The jury is stil out on O'Neil. KR could use a change of scenery, but I do question where her head is?
Its been an ugly offseason in Lincoln. Kids leaving. Coaches leaving. There's been some new signings, including a real exciting prospect from the Kansas City area recently. But the one thing that needs to happen, hasn't happened, and many of the signs so far point to Palpitine Sanderford getting a very recent vote of confidence.

I'd hope that, if she were to transfer, her new team would suspend her for the DUI just like Nebraska will.

I said the same thing when Nina Smith said she was quitting. Players with lesser talent can easily say yes or no, but players with considerable talent and hype (like Jones and Smith did) feel obligated to play because they're that good at it. They shouldn't, but they do. If they don't want to play, they really shouldn't be playing. I certainly have no hard feelings toward Nina Smith, and I hope she has a successful career in whatever she wants to do.

Interesting question, and I don't have an answer to it. Robinette does have baggage now, and I'm sure Fennelly will take that into consideration if indeed Robinette decides to transfer and ISU is a possibility.
Ever since Anne O'Neil started practicing with the team, BF has done nothing but rave about what a great player she is. She seems to have a reputation for being some sort of a "problem child" and I'm not sure where that come from. I assume it has something to do with her transfer from Illinois. Things could change once she starts to get some game time, but I haven't heard anything to suggest she's been a problem yet.
Still, with two transfers (including Kate Bauman) and one person quitting the team, Fennelly must now be taking into consideration non-basketball factors (more than ever) when recruiting players.

It is a very interesting situation. I would hate to see Katie end up doing great things in an Iowa State, or anyone elses uniform.
But as long as Palpitine Sanderfraud is in charge, the possibility is very likely.
I'm glad basketball season is far away.

I hate to be picky about choice of words, but why do coaches sometimes give vague quotes to newspapers? Sanderford said Katie is still a member of the team. Quotes like that just give fuel to more speculation and rumors. Why doesn't he just say that Katie will be playing for Nebraska next season?
I'm not just picking on Sanderford. If a coach is rumored to be a candidate for another coaching job, many will say, "I'm happy coaching here," or "that school hasn't contacted me." They could just squash the rumor by saying something like, "I'm happy caoching here and am not interested in other coaching jobs."
Best wishes to Katie. I hope she develops to her basketball potential and enjoys the process.
Sanderford gave a vague quuote because he really has no idea. Robinette is currently a member of the team, but nobody knows if she'll be around next season. This OW-H article is a lot less certain about the future of Robinette than the Lincoln paper's article was.

Two days ago, the Omaha W-H reported that Robinette pled guilty and reveived a $400 fine and 9 months probation. I don't believe Nebraska has announced disciplinary action yet, although I'm sure they were at least waiting until it made it through the leagl system first. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't announce anything until after the fall semester starts.
