Collen did earn two masters degrees afterall (http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaw/news/ap/20020607/ap-vanderbilt-coach.html) ........ unbelievable!

This is absolutely unbelievable. I thought the whole thing was blown out of proportion anyway, since it's not like he completely made up things (like the former vball coach at ISU did).

What a crummy situation for all involved. So strange. According to the article, he was forced to resign because he blamed all of the confusion on the sports info staff at CSU, but it seems that both were right all along.

I wonder how the Tennessean newspaper feels, after all, it was their research that led to Collen's resignation in the first place. Perhaps the writers should have dug a bit deeper at Miami instead of just stopping once they found something wrong.

Basically he put one master's degree on his application to Vanderbilt, then the Tennessean spotted two master's degrees in his CSU bio and there erupted all the hassle. It will be interesting to see how all this is handled in the end.

and, both Vanderbilt and Colorado State have hired their coaches.....which leaves Collen with no options with either program.

Well, I think Xavier is still open...

Wonder how many lawyers have called him thus far, and I wonder if there'll be a lawsuit.

Now I wonder what the sentiment will be for places looking for a coach. While I think that he is cleared of the masters degree issue, there's still the issue of blaming the staff at CSU. That's kind of shady...and if his rep is tarnished at this point, it would be because of that.

This really makes me angry!

This poor man was castigated as a "dishonest person" when all he did was win basketball games at CSU. It's a darn shame that the administration at CSU didn't go the last mile to investigate this in the first place.

Somebody owes this man BIG TIME!

I hope he ends up with his dream job now, wherever that might be. This poor man undoubtably thought he was correct, and was no doubt mortified to find that what he assumed was true was incorrect. This ought to be big-time news on sports pages everywhere, because his career was seriously damaged by this incident.

As someone on the ISU board pointed out, maybe he can find a job at Nebraska... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I'd welcome Tom Collen with open arms. The guy can coach, AND he know how to beat those communists from BoulderHanoi http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
