The BDC's Chris Shelton has a blog with his season prediction for the Buffs. He has them going 18-13. Read more at:

I personally have them as an NCAA team. 18-13 doesn't suggest that.
Maybe I'm wrong, and Chris Shelton's right. But I wouldn't put money on it either way right now.

He picked them as 7-9 in the Big 12.
In my preseason predictions (made on Oct 4) I have them going 5-11 in Big 12 play.
But most of my preseason predictions are WAGs (Wild-Azzed Guesses). I have nothing to back them up. We'll just have to see.

I'd be quite happy to go to the WNIT. There is a lot of VERY young talent on this team. 7-9 in a tough Big 12 with some road wins would be good, too.
I agree with most of his picks. You are right, Mark, the Wyoming game will be very telling. I watched them play Kansas State last week and they look to be quite good.
It would be great to go to the NCAA tournament this year and I would hope post-season play would shut the naysayers of Kathy up once and for all.

Wyoming is going to be CU's toughest non-conference home game. And given their style of play, it will give us a sense of how the Buffs defend teams that thrive on the trey - or at least the constant threat of the trey.
I'll be blunt here, the least the Buffs should do this season is the WNIT. I say this knowing that they are still relatively young and with the addition of Fressle and Mullaney next season they will be loaded with good perimiter players.
As for this season, at least early on, they team has to learn the new offense quickly which will more likely help cut down on turnovers. Also, the team needs one player to step up and be a leader from the point guard position. Oh, either Kara or Ajia need to be solid contributers to help take some pressure off of Jackie.
It will be interesting to see how juco transfer Dina Piterniece fits in when she becomes healthy. She is supposed to be a solid three point shooter.
As an aside to Shelton's predictions, it's important for those of us who read and appreciate his blogs to post comments with them so that the Camera knows his work is being read.

I agree with you on all points. I'm hoping to see good things from Dina when she is healthy. I think Blythe is going to be a great player for us, as is Spears. Yes, either Aija or Kara have to get their games together. I keep wondering where is the Aija that played so well last summer on her national team.

I think Aija has the skills to become a great college basketball player. One of the main issues she faces, IMHO, is a lack of confidence on the offensive end. She seemed to have it last season when Kara was injured and she started. Then she got injured and when she came back her offense was tentative. Despite her offensive inconsistency, she is the best rebounder on the team.
I think Kara has had foul troubles in the first two games and that has slowed her down a bit.
Regardless, at least one of them has to become more of a threat to score.
Aija and Kara :
My observation Aija is that, for some reason, Aija plays well if she is the starter but does not play well if she does not start. It's like she feels confident if the coach has the confidence in her to start her but if the coach doesn't start her, her confidence goes away. She certainly seems to have the talent to consistently be a much bigger contributor.
As for Kara, it seems to me she has started every season playing tentatively and needs too long to get in a good groove. It sounds strange to say of someone her size who has always has played in the post but she almost seems timid at times out there.
Given all that, I am looking forward to seeing this team play, starting tomorrow.

I've always felt that Kara plays timid and for a post player, I have never been able to figure that out.
