I found out from a friend of mine at Creighton that the 2002 Missouri Valley Conference Champion Bluejays will play the Lady Raiders at USA-Lubbock December 4th. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

It seems the Raiders needed a game on their schedule, Creighton made a cold call and the deal got done.

That games intrigues me enough to take a flight out to Lubbock in December!!! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

That will be a good one! I'm sure the fact that Lisa Stone will be assisting Marsha Sharp with USA basketball this summer didn't hurt anything either.

Maybe Lisa put in a good word for the lasses. You never know. Either way it'll be fun to see Nebraska's REAL womens college basketball team play down in Lubbock.

I might just have to make a treck back to Lubbock for this one...though I will only get to pick the absolute best ones to attend. Hey Press, do you think that Dallas will carry the games on TV next year?

Only the one's that are on Fox or ESPN. The local (DFW) station is picking up the men's games they carry on the Tech Network, but not the women's as far as I know.

If somebody hears about any Big 12 team coming to LA please let me know. I would figure most tenative schedules should be out within the next month or so. Would love to see Tech, OU, KSU. I'm hoping Baylor comes to LA but knowing ucla they may chicken out.

Creighton usually has a solid women's basketball team.

Tech shouldn't have any problems with them, but Creighton isn't exactly a cupcake. This is a good addition to Tech's schedule.

After living in Omaha for 3 years, I have a lot of respect for Coach Yori and her program. She's a class act and it will be a pleasure to welcome her to the USA...they'll give us a battle.

That game ought to be one of the better ones next year. The Bluejays really impressed me in the tourney this year, and we all know that Tech is going to be extremely formidable next year.

Just one more tasty treat for the 2002-2003 season. I don't want to miss this one!

I have always thought Creighton was a bit under-rated...they certainly have given ISU a hard time in the past.

Elizabeth Merrill of the Omaha World Herald writes:

When Iowa State decided not to renew its border rivalry with Creighton next season, Connie Yori worried about finding another Top 20 team to beef up the Jays' non-conference schedule.

I hadn't heard that it came about like that (i.e., at ISU's initiative to stop playing each other). I don't much like the sound of it either, despite the fact that Creighton has been such a tough opponent for Iowa State. It's been a good regional rivalry that should, I think, be continued.

The same was thought after this year's Tech vs. New Mexico annual game. The series was not renewed by Tech after its 10th year.

I did not know that about the UNM-Tech game. Thats also a shame, considering that the Lobos beat Tech this year and have been a challenge in years past. Coach Don Flanagan (the former girls coach at my high school) needs some more power teams to play. (If there was an OU-UNM matchup, id scream in excitement like a little girl.)

I believe ISU dropped the Creighton game because they already play Northern Iowa and Drake every year and did not want to overdo the MVC on their schedule

I had also heard that perhaps they dropped Creighton because they wanted to set up a home and away game with Washington, so Lindsey Wilson could play in her home state, but I don't know that for sure.
