Anne O'Neil tore her ACL in a pickup game. I'll post the link on the front page.

Good grief! That is horrible news for her and ISU. I hope she has a speedy recovery. I was looking forward to seeing her play--heard a lot of good things about her.

Sorry to hear about Anne's injury. She is a special person/athlete. I too was looking forward to seeing her play this fall. Maybe the timing of the injury will allow her to be back and playing next season after all. I hope so for all the cyclone fans and ANNE!

This is ugly. Maybe she can get a few recovery pointers from Eric Junod, who IMO is a testament to what true determination really is.
Not that any time is a good time to tear your ACL, but it was early enough that she should be back in time for the start of the season Don't underestimate the impact of a summer of lost conditioning, though.

I wouldn't look for her to contribute much this coming season even if she is able to play. When someone comes back from an ACL, it's usually the year after when they're back closer to full speed.

I was pretty happy with Junod's contribution only three months after the injury. A month after coming back, she still wasn't at full speed but she was pretty close. However, it's definitely a case-by-case thing. Two people can react completely different to the injury and rehab. O'Neil certainly won't be at full speed to start the season.

I agree with mred. I thought Junod gave ISU a huge lift...initially it was emotional, but I think down the stretch she was contributing a lot basketball-wise.
I hope Anne can come back from this...that would be the worst to sit a year for eligibility purposes and then get injured and have to sit through another year doing rehab. Blech! Good luck Anne!

Thought this was worth mentioning.
Lindsey Meder former Iowa Hawkeye tore a knee ligament at practice with the Minnesota Lynx. I hate hearing about all these players tearing up their knees.
Good Luck to both Anne and Lindsey!

I thought Junod provided an emotional lift, but, in my opinion, she wasn't near her old self. Old is probably the wrong word, let's try former.
It looks to me very hard for any lady to be close to or above her former self in less than one year after this type of surgery.

Just a word I heard from "a current player"....."June is playing better now than she was Nov. 1, 2002 (before the tear)..."T.P." and Cofield are working their butts off in rehab..... Anne is still hanging in the dorms with the rest of the team, she has no idea what the average healing time is supose to be... she only knows that come first day of practice..she'll be READY !" Though the team is smaller (numbers and inches), these players love this game, their commitment comes without question!! they will be ready for the Big 12 next season - ..TRUST ME!! ISU Women's Basketball is here to stay !

Before the injury, Junod was another Lindsey Wilson-type. Her ability to create her own shot and defend the perimeter were noticably diminshed when she came back. She made a lot of progress from when she returned through the end of the season, and I'mconfident she'll be in great shape when this year starts. That will be pretty much one year to the date...

Thanks for the great info! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
Tracy P. and Cofield both have kneecap problems. Is that what they had surgery on? Brittany Wilkins also had a kneecap problem, which is why she sat out last season. What is it with our team and kneecaps? http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
I'm really excited about our prospects for next season, and I have absolutely no idea why. This just seems to be the first season with a lot of questions since I've been a fan, and that makes things exciting. Expectations are lower, so it gives the team a chance to really surprise people.
