Hey this is WAY "off topic" so if you are offended don't participate.

Siemens Medical is holding a contest to give away a million dollar MRI machine to a rural hospital. And also to promote their new MRI machines of course. The contest involves each hospital that wishes to participate making a homemade video and submiting it to them for use on the web. The video that gets the most votes wins. Our hospital, Clay County Medical Center, is currently in 2cd place with a hospital from New York state in first. The CCMC video was made by our IT guy and other members of our staff. It features our Director of Nurses (Tyce Young) as "Granny". The car he drives is a very pretty 3/4 replica of a 1906 Olds that is owned by his dad. The bogus MRI van is a 1947 GMC bread truck that I and other members of our staff restored to use as a fake ambulance in parades.

Anyway, the video is a hoot and we need all the votes we can get. We already have space for an MRI and will be able to line up the staff to run it. Currently we use a mobile service two days a week and we need more coverage. Please if you are so inclined click on www.winanmri.com scroll down to find our "Granny Gets An MRI", watch the video and VOTE for us. You can vote once a day and after the first day you don't need to watch the video to vote.

Commish if this post violates all that is holy feel free to delete it. ;)

Jimi,

I'll do my best to remember to give you a vote a day from now until the end of the voting period. Hope you're successful in getting the good people of Clay Center behind this effort. Best of luck!

Thanks a lot Bballgirl and Yemenbear! The community is really getting behind this and enjoying it. The story of the contest was picked up by the Philadelphia Inquirer and the video title they picked to use to illustrate the story was ours. While I was writing this I got a call from the Kansas City Star. The reporter had seen our video and wanted to do a story.

Many of the locals, employees etc. have emailed their address book list and touted the video. Btw, neither "Brutus" the dog, or either of the cats used in the video were harmed. ;) Brutus was actually chomping on the shoes of his owner, "Granny".

Did you know that water softener pellets make pretty good fake hail and white gravy does ok for some things other than eating.

Thanks for your support Row6Seat10, but I can't tell you that was my idea. My role was to say "go ahead" and then get out of the way. It is always great to work with creative crazy people.

Don't forget you can vote every day.

Go Big 12!

Bumping this up.

I have 2 computers running so I'm giving it 2 votes a day. All I have to do is remember it!

Thanks everyone. We appreciate your support. We are currently number 3 but if we can sustain our votes after the start-up excitement we still have a very good shot at winning.

Go Big 12!!!

Go Big 12!!!Jimi - There is no excuse for #2 being #2 - but even I, who would never desert the Big 12, have to admit that a Kansas Hospital without a tornado story to tell has an uphill battle against #1.

But my calendar reminds me every day to go to

http://www.winanmri.com/

flip down a screen, hit the "view by popularity" button (it makes Jimi's entry easier to find) and vote for Granny Gets an MRI!!!!

(for those of you who are reading this thread for the first time and want to help Jimi get his MRI!)

The hospital in Americus, Georgia that blew away is "blowing away" the competition. They have twice as many votes.

But we are not about to back down. We have been given on air stories by TV channel 49 and channel 27 from Topeka. The Manhattan Mercury, Washington County News, Clay Center Dispatch and other papers have run stories also. We figure we have until December 30th to catch up. In addition there is always the chance that Americus could get disqualified so we want to hang in there and fight.

Besides, We are having lots of fun. :) We got "Vote for Granny" campaign buttons this week so we are still getting our word out. Just our luck the Clay Center internet provider was down last weekend due to a cut cable and that did not help a bit.

Thanks for all the help.

"Granny needs an MRI" is the right one indeed. Thank you! We need every vote. The last 3 days I had a chance to share with a lot of other Kansas health-care people so I hope that will help. In any case we are having FUN. Our Marketing/Foundation Director won two "Emerald Awards" at our state convention this week. Emerald awards are the highest awards the Kansas Health-Care Communicators award. None were won by any hospital even remotely as small as ours so we are very proud of her.

"Granny" still needs your votes! The rules say: one vote per computer per day. So, you can vote more than once if you log onto more than one computer. Please keep voting for "Granny Gets an MRI"...right up to December 31st.
