Well, the highest-paid losing coach in America granted an exclusive 30 minute interview on the death of Nebraska Womens Basketball.
If you love coachspeak...you'll love this.
For those who prefer a no-spin zone, there will be a Chipper-translated version coming http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I'll say one thing: the interviewer asked all the right questions, even if Sanderford didn't really answer them.

Asked all the questions and then some. John Mabry, who wrote the article, didn't hold back one bit on his questions. Good job.

So Chipper,
What do you think about Jamie Wendelin, the 5'11'' Small Forward from Gretna, who Nebraska recently signed? Is she ready for the Big 12, or is Sanderford just trying to fill up the roster?

Wendelin would make a fine UNK Antelope, just like Andrea Lightfoot would make an excellent UNO Maverick.
That ought to tell you what I think about their Big 12 prospects.
Pale's surrendering next season, and preparing to take his guaranteed money.

I totally agree. Even though I was impressed with Wendelin this year at the state tournament, I'm not sure she is D1-ready. I was impressed with her perimeter skills and she has decent ball-handling ability but she will have to improve in all areas of her game if she wants to make an impact on our program. Remember Jennifer Jaracz (I can't remember how to spell her name) Wendelin is eerily similar to her, and she only lasted for about 2 seasons.
Also, are there any quality post players who could possibly become Huskers? I have heard from a lot of sources that Lauren Ervin, a 6'3" center from L.A., was being pursued by Nebraska. Ervin has been rated as high as #2 in the class of 2003 and is being recruited by the likes of UConn, Tennessee, and Notre Dame. Although we probably don't have a chance of landing a recruit of that caliber, we really need a low post presence.
What do you think about Jane Horkey from S. Sioux? I was amazed by the improvement that she has made over the past year. I think ISU is getting a very hard working center who has a ton of potential. She has good hands, footwork, and finishing ability and to give Cyclone fans a comparison, Jane is already as good better than current Cyclone center Britney Wilkins. Just like Carla Bennet and Christy Neneman before her, Horkey will probably grow to become the next former Nebraskan who will haunt Husker fans for years to come.

I haven't heard about any new prospects inside. It would be great to get Irvin, if she is everything her press clipping say.
Jane Horkey was a good pick up for ISU. A center who does well in an up-tempo style of play. She'll do very well at Iowa State, especially since she's going to a program where she will have another coach who believes in putting a player into the best possible position to do well
I am somewhat perplexed by Paul Sanderford's recent acquisitions. Wendelin is steady, but she's more of a Division II type of player, as is Lightfoot (although I could see joining Connie Yori's collection of Omaha Marian guards at Creighton). Crystal Howard drawing a scholarship offer in her sophomore year was really surprising (Howard is good, she's not that good.). I'm can't call the inbounds at that point.
Going strictly by his answers in the Lincoln Journal-Star, I don't think he even sees much in next year's team.

I've seen a lot of Drake. If Horkey is the next Bennett, I will be very happy. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
