Has anyone heard where and if BranDee Fry signed? I understand she visited UT's campus a few weeks back, but have not heard anything lately. Just curious.....we could certainly use a quality 6'4" center. What about Augustus from Baton Rouge,La.? If she signs with LSU, they are going to be extremely tough. Did UT sign a "home-home" with LSU? I know we go to New Mexico next season, but unsure about LSU and Penn State for that matter.

Augustus said she would sign on her birthday, which is something like April 30th.

Fry may not have signed anywhere yet. I've been looking to see if she has and have not been able to find anything.

BranDee will decide Wednesday. It is down to Ole Miss and Texas. She has eliminated Nebraska, Old Dominion, Penn State, Miami and Texas A&M.

Hi Fan26,
Welcome to the board. I appreciate you signing on to give us this news. Longhorn fans will be all over the boards tommorrow looking for the decision. A quality good-sized post would be a great addition to what should be a very good Longhorn team.

I hope you're right that Fry has narrowed her choices down to Texas and Ole Miss, but I did see an entry dated 4/24 at the Moss Point High School web site stating that she continues to list Texas, Ole Miss, Old Dominion, Miami, and Penn State as schools she is considering. It went on to say that insiders believe Fry favors Texas at this time.
Time will tell.

I do have an inside connection in Moss Point. BranDee took her final visit this weekend to Ole Miss. She returned Monday. She had previously canceled two visits with Ole Miss. The visits were for the two weekends prior to this. I also saw the web site you visited. I have not heard any news today of a decision. My sources have said it is down to Ole Miss and Texas. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

I emailed a reporter from the Sun Herald newspaper in Biloxi, MS. He's written a couple of articlesHe said she has not made a decision, but has in fact narrowed her choices down to Ole Miss and Texas.
Here is an article he wrote a couple of weeks ago:

Not that this matters, but Ole Miss has signed 5 players for the upcoming season.

Sounds like a center UT has been looking for. Is she listed in the top 100? I don't find her on any of my lists, but figured she would be with that height and being POY.

BranDee Fry is a two-time all state 6'4" center from Moss Point, Mississippi. As a senior she averaged 12.8 points, 15.4 rebounds, 7.4 blocks, and 4.3 assists per game.
Her stats seem to indicate that she likes to play defense.

I saw BranDee play over the christmas holidays. She is a great athlete who is a legit shot blocker. She has great footwork and hands. She runs the floor extremely well. I believe as well as everyone else that her offense has not caught up with her even though she is a threat on the low block. Moss Point had a great team with players who could score. Brandee was not alone. They lost in the State Semis. She was co-player of the year with the Dillard post who signed with Miss State. Texas indeed did get a good one.

Here's an intersting tidbit that I failed to mention in a previous post.
During her high school career, BranDee blocked an incredible 784 shots.
Now that's a lot of blocked shots!
TXSNOS
Averaging over 7 blocks per game would seem to indicate someone who is more than a high school shot blocker. Together with the shot blocking ability of Nissa Hastings inside hopefully will force opponents to take lower percentage shots.
This should also help Texas match-up problems inside. Stacy Stephens is a great player, and she performed well and consistently all year. But, at only 6-1 she is at a disadvantage playing with some of the taller posts.
If Brandee Fry is as good as everyone seems to think she should force JC to find a way to get her on the floor. I have wondered why, if she is really this good, she seemed to get no recognition outside of her home state - at least to my knowledge. However, she was apparently recruited by a number of quality programs. That should make everyone feel better that this was not just a desperation signing reflecting Texas size and lack of depth inside.
Comments by JC at the end of the season, that Texas would probably not sign another post, seemed to be a message that she would rather go with what she had, rather than sign someone who just happened to be big but had no skills.
But, this was maybe the best sign - I spoke with one of the players a few days ago and asked them about Brandee. The response was to break into a huge grin and say "oh yeah, that is going to be fun". (Or, at least very very close to those words)
With Stacy Stephens two years ago, Schreiber and Bowers last year, and Nina Norman this year Texas seems to be returning to a talent level that should make them competitive on a national level.
Speaking of Schreiber and Bowers here is a nice article about some recognition for their high school accomplishments....
